Open, Season
Bulbous, about-
sprouting from ginger
experiment planted,
fascinates, as likens
to libidinous rising.
Open manifest of
urge to life stirs.

Brethren, called
to Spring’s call
likewise burst
in round and pointed ways.
My gaze fixed
on their green
sex. Who says
it’s confined to
warm blood
pumping up and up?

Tiny eggs
and sperm
put to dirt
bed sleep.
Warm wet
dreams
awake,
open.
Come,
life!

Muskegon (my home town) boy, Iggy Pop, says a little more about it:
Note: In psychology, libido is psychic drive or energy, usually conceived of as sexual in nature, but sometimes conceived of as including other forms of desire.
Laura is today’s host of dVerse’ Meet the Bar/Form. Laura says:
So for this prompt our writing will be in the Open Poetry Form, otherwise known as Free Verse or Vers Libre. This is not to be regarded as an anarchic free-for -all but rather poetry set free from the uniform straight jacket.

I love how you captured the joy of growing things in this poem, Lisa.

April is that month of growth… I have a lot of little plants and seedlings just growing at the moment.

It sure is, Bjorn. I have stevia growing in one set of trays (15 seeds or so.) I bought a new heating mat and a tray with 77 cubes in it and have multiple things (peppers, tomatoes, birdhouse gourds, balloon flowers, …) What do you have growing?

I’d forgotten ginger is an aphrodisiac! I put some in my recipe for dinner tonight. Va-va-voom!

Oh Jennifer, I didn’t know it was an aphrodisiac. Serendipitous for it to find its way into my poem :) Va-Va-voom!

Max, the connection between Spring’s bursting forth like sex has been rolling around in my noggin for awhile. Michael Pollan wrote a book about how plants use their skills to charm us into keeping them alive, called, “The Botany of Desire.” I think he’s gone around the bend recently though as I saw him in a netflix series focused on psychedelic mind-altering experiences! lol

LOL…oh there are groups who still do the psychedelic drugs with a doctor. It is interesting…don’t know how much is true but supposedly it does unlock parts of your mind that won’t open without it. I wouldn’t do it at my age. But many of my music friends did shrooms back in the day…I was chicken on that back then.
I’ve heard of Michael Pollan.

Yes, I have heard of the new embrace of old taboo practices. They are also using ketamine for it, which seems like a big red flag to me, but if it works it’s worth it. A friend of mine, many years ago now, traded me a daoist book he was looking for for a journal he did while under influence of psychedelics. I think it was a fair trade.

Yes that was a good trade!
I do regret not doing it at least once. Peyote is what I would do because it is natural. I’ve read where it depends on your personality…all the acid heads I knew told me I would be good because I’m happy most of the time. If you are an up tight person…you will have a bad experience.

That’s what I heard also. I’m too high strung to chance it.

Just read your poem, Dear Lona. “We all taste the same” to them is incisively true. The blank eyes remind me of Bob Dylan’s line from “Like a Rolling Stone” : ‘when you stare into the vacuum of his eyes’
Happy you are well and joyful. Always good to see you also <3
