#MMB 2025 — “April Bloom” by Lior

Lior

It’s fun to open oneself to new things.  That’s why I like music prompts so much.  I seek new music out and I get to listen to what others are sharing.  This time I did the usual search for “song titles or lyrics containing April.”  Once I had the list I started reading lyrics, regardless of the artist.  The lyrics of “April Bloom” immediately had me seeking out a YouTube of the song.  I knew this would be my Mixed Music Bag April 2025 selection this week.  The song and the artist are completely new to me.  The live version with an orchestra backup is perfect.  I want to learn more about this artist as he sings “April Bloom” with genuine style and passion.

from wikipedia:

Lior Attar, better known simply as Lior, is an independent Australian singer-songwriter based in Melbourne. He is best known for his 2005 debut studio album Autumn Flow, which featured singles such as “Daniel“, the title track and his signature song “This Old Love“.

Lior was born in Rishon LeZion, Israel and he and his family moved to Sydney when he was 10. They made their first Australian home in Lane Cove, and Lior studied at Killara High School and the University of New South Wales.

In February 2008, Lior released his second studio album, Corner of an Endless Road, which “April Bloom” is a cut from. The album debuted at number 13 on the ARIA charts. At the ARIA Music Awards of 2008, the album was nominated for the Best Independent Release.

Lior has released 3 more studio albums and two live albums since Corner of an Endless Road. He’s also been featured on other albums as well as released a couple of EPs.

Lior performs ‘April Bloom’ with Joseph Tawadros and the Sydney Symphony Orchestra at the Sydney Opera House Sep 2013.

April Bloom

April bloom never arrived
I was left dry
Hoping for regeneration
But my seeds had all but died

I longed to be swept away
By the shifting sands
To be freed by roaring winds
To forget who I am

As everything lay so still
Silently wilting away

Dusk arrived and took a hold
Pushing the sun down
Red turned black
The freezing air
I fell to ground

As everything lay so still
Silently wilting away

April bloom never arrived
So I look within
To live the year in seasons
Without changing

I hear the strains of like middle eastern flavor in his vocals which compliments the strings in this so well. Thanks for the introduction

Yes, he is, Carol Anne. I’m hooked on that song, as it’s performed in the video with his “backup band.” :)
