A2Z 2025 — Day 26 — Zebra Mallow (Malva Zebrina)

Zebra Mallow
This is a plant I knew nothing about when I bought it, beyond the pretty picture on the plant stake.  I knew it looked like a geranium blossom and it was a perennial.  I’m so glad to have bought it.  The first couple of years it went ga-ga and re-seeded itself in its immediate vicinity.  It has languished since then but there are still some new every year.

Here we are, at the end of A2Z 2025.  I’ve met some awesome new bloggers that I highly recommend you check out:

Allison who loves to tell tales from the dark side.
Deborah a holistic healer who has shared so much goodness about things with intrinsic value.
Barbara * who has been making me hungry with the menu choices on restaurants she’s been to.
Fandango * who has been sharing this and that including frank commentary on the sad effin state of politics in the U.S. these days.
Samantha who has been introducing me to good music.
Csenge aka Tarkabarka who has delighted me with folklore and mythology of powerful, intelligent women/goddesses.
Anne * who has highlighted art, stories, and poetry from her new book, Bittersweetness & Light.
Astrid who has talked psychological terms, assessments, theories, etc.  I’ve enjoyed the dialogue with her.
Maria *who has gone deeper and beyond.
Fatima who has been introducing me to the wonderful trees of India and her personal connections to them.
Josna who is an amazingly well-read and thoughtful essayist who is a retired literature educator.  Thank you for all of your quality title introductions!
Gunilla who has offered musical selections with a jewelry theme.
Wolf of Words who is an excellent writer of fan fic.  Some I knew many brand new ones.
Liam *who has shared quality short films.
Renee who shared her favorite songs and explained why they are.  Great tunes, Ren!
Donna aka Froggi who has shared so many fun and interesting memories of her adventures.
Brenda * who has delighted and uplifted me every day.
Rachel who has shared so many wonderful myths and folklore from all times and places.

*I already know these bloggers.

It’s been fun.  I want to thank each and every one of you who have been reading and commenting on the posts this month.  Thanks also for the sharing, camaraderie, and especially the recipes!  Which post/picture was your favorite?

I’m starting to think the pine needles put the kibosh on them. Looking at the pics there is a carpet covering the soil :(

Actually, I did. This is what I discovered: No, pine needles are generally not detrimental to zebra mallow. In fact, they can be a beneficial mulch. While fresh pine needles are slightly acidic, their pH rises as they dry and decompose, making them suitable for use around most plants, including zebra mallow.

Now that is fascinating! I went by what a friend told me some years back, saying he had to have his yard treated with lime pellets because of the acidity of the pine needles. Maybe it’s time I had a soil test done to see what it says.

        1. Your mallow is very pretty – I’m a big fan of striped flowers and striped leaves. It’s been a delight meandering through your garden this month.

And thank you for your visits and comments, as well as including me on your blogger list. These April (and beyond connections) help keep my feet firmly planted on the joy trail.

Thanks for the list of A to Z bloggers (and including me). I just went through the list and a good number of them I had not found on my own, so it gave me a chance to leave some final comments.

Congratulations on completing the challenge with such energy! Thank you for not only listing my blog but for writing that kind tag line. And thank you for all your visits and comments over the month. Here’s to enjoying the summer with your beautiful flowers and trees! (BTW, it might be the pine needles, or maybe the soil just needs loosening up a bit.)

Josna, you are more than welcome. Your blog has been a pleasure to visit each day and I plan on continuing my visits. Things are really greening up around here and trees blooming all over the place with the warmer weather. I do need to dig in the soil, add some new dirt and water regularly. Thanks for the advice <3
