Symbiotes?
Gazette publishes monthly articles urging single seniors to stop looking for love; instead, to search for the companionship of a symbiotic relationship. Myrtle, life-long romantic, cancels her subscription.
Myrtle accepts when Virginia invites her on a cruise, hopeful that Mr. Right will be aboard.
She and Virginia are discussing the bisque when a silver fox joins them at their table.
A bottle of moscato later their sides are hurting with laughter.
Charles blurts out, “Myrtle, are you a good cook? Molten lava cake is my favorite.”
:::Silence:::
“Charles, I’m a great cook. By the way, how often are your ‘eruptions?’ “
[101 words]
Note: My story was partially inspired by the wonderful photo but also about reading/watching multiple sources suggesting what’s suggested in the first paragraph. I’m really interested in whether others have seen this push. Also what are your thoughts on the concept of looking for a symbiotic connection rather than “falling in love”?

Some are looking for love (and/or sex), some for companionship. Why is this a big deal? Do what feels right for you. (And some are just fine with whatever shows up.) (K)

That was a playful ending and in pretty good taste – which can be hard to do in 100 words.
I have not heard about the seniors and symbiotic partnerships – and while it makes sense – my romantic side would insist some (love/like) attraction would have to be there for a real partnership.

Totally agree, Prior. Thanks for your endorsement of “in pretty good taste” :)

😊 I meant it!
On a side note – earlier this spring we saw the show “social security” and I wanted to leave at intermission – which is a big deal for me because I can accept a lot and usually try hard to glean the good –
and while the actors performance was fine, it was the raunchy storyline and depiction os sex that was off – and not well done.
still shaking my head about it –
and I do not mind the sex topic – and even think it can be fun – like you cleverly did here – with innuendos and light humor – but that “social security” story was written poorly ….
“Social Security is a comedic play that revolves around a married couple, a goody-goody sister, her husband, and a Jewish mother who try to save a college-student daughter from the perceived dangers of living only for sex.”
It was the worst play I have ever seen

LOL. Nice to be compared to “the worst play I have ever seen.” Thanks for taking the time to elaborate on your previous comment.

As long as two people are happy, who cares what their motivation is. I’ve seen ‘in love’ and ‘symbiotic’ relationships prosper and founder… the luck of the draw I guess, and the amount of work you put into it.

Very reasonably stated, Sandra. I have also. The work part is the rub.

Dear Lisa,
Call me a romantic, I’m for falling in love. On the other hand I think that leaves room for some symbiosis, no? I have to admit I erupted with laughter at your last line.

Rochelle when you get to be my age, men don’t intimidate. May as well just respond in kind. Thanks so much and happy you laughed at it :)

Some people confuse love with sex. As I age I know there is more to life, and so with experience comes wisdom seeking enjoyment.

James, “wisdom seeking enjoyment” is something I wish you would elaborate on if you have the time.

I think life is for living and while they are looking for love or symbiosis, they can have themselves lots of fun. That last line had me laughing!

I really like Myrtle. Symbiotic relationship, ph. Love is always good, sex is optional, and it’s up to each couple to do what they want. It’s youth culture’s idea of how old people ought to behave.
