#FF — First Fourth

PHOTO PROMPT © Roger Bultot

First Fourth

Stars in the sky tonight come from bridge globes, cell phone glows, and gunpowder concoctions. It’s as if the real ones have gotten the night off. I stand shoulder to shoulder with strangers at the rail, watching the spectacle. Turning left and right, I see shining, smiling faces.

My text dings, “I miss you” with a dozen heart emojis.

I text back, sad face emoji and a blue heart.

In a few days, it will be my first fourth away from home.

Was it madness or wisdom when I left my loved ones behind to live in a new land?

[100 words]

Note:  not sure if I was too oblique or not, but Canada Day is celebrated on July 1.

Rochelle Wisoff-Fields is the host of Friday Fictioneers.  Thank you for a good photo to write to, Roger.

A great story, Lisa. I am sure our ancestors asked the same question when they got to this country for the first time.

Thank you for the bit of explanation. At least she didn’t travel too far. But far enough. ;) Good one.

This is lovely and yet sad. A choice made but missing family is hard, not matter the reason for being away. Nicely described
