Invisible Evidence
Are faith and belief the same?
They seem to be, but why are
There two words for one concept?
Are they identical twins?
Perhaps they are clones?
Are faith and belief the same?
Philosophers want us confused.
Sorry, I can’t be bothered.
They seem to be, but why are
we talking so much about it?
It’s moot. You have it/them or you don’t.
There are two words for one concept.

Interesting idea Li. I do think k there is a difference between them. Perhaps of degrees.

My brain hurts when I try to separate them, pain similar to separating co-joined twins, I would imagine.

Yes, when one views them as the same, then creating a distinction between them is difficult.

I think there are many instances where there are two or more words for the same concept.🙃 Then there are some concepts that there are no words for at all.

As everyone has said, interesting. IMHO faith is more powerful than belief. We say ‘I believe it will rain today’. Are the words interchangeable? I believe they can be …. sometimes! I’m sure you get my drift.

Nancy, thank you for sharing your thoughts on the two. It’s all part of the relativity of things…

Thanks much. Sometimes I just get tired of splitting fine hairs. It’s like making two peanut butter sandwiches and trying to give them identical amounts of peanut butter. Does it really matter (unless you’re two five year-olds.)

Your post definitely made me think and I still haven’t figured it all out, but I think I agree with you. Great poem! I also love your picture of mustard seeds. They’re kind of pretty!

Lisa, thanks for your thoughtful comment. I agree on the mustard seeds. I google searched them and did not know they looked like that. They are kind of pretty!

Interesting poem, Lisa. There are many intangable concepts in the English language that have more than one way of expressing themsleves. Well done.

Dwight, intangible is an excellent word for it, and I would add personalized. I daresay each person has a unique perspective/way of apprehending them. Thank you for sharing your thoughts on the poem <3

Beautifully written! I love how you capture the mystery of faith—it feels like more than belief, it’s trust and surrender woven into daily life. Your words made me pause and reflect.
