I’m on the Nonesuch mailing list, which is Molly Tuttle’s label. This morning I listened to a new tune from her new solo album, “So Long, Little Miss,” called, “The Highway Knows.” Is there such a thing as love at first listen?
Most of the following pics were taken today. As you can see, the birdhouse gourds are growing. A special bonus video at the end that I hope you will enjoy. Happy Friday to All.
Since I seem to have forgotten how to add captions:
pics 1-4 are the biggest gourds
pic 5 two of the few tomatoes (mortgage lifters) on the vines.
pics 6 & 7 are the sulphur cosmos that totally reseeded themselves. Hidden under their vigorous growth are stevia, columbine, and delicate violets
pic 8 the ginger plant continues to grow, albeit VERY SLOWLY

BONUS VIDEO, taken this afternoon:

The Molly Tuttle song was lovely, Lisa. Do you eat the gourds, or make things out of them? Butterflies are a real sign of summer.

Glad you like the Molly song. These are birdhouse gourds, so most will follow their namesake. Interestingly though, someone showed me a book full of ways to use gourds to make musical instruments. Will see and post on it.

Your photos are lovely, Lisa, but the absolute kicker is Molly Tuttle. I’ve really come to dig her. I think she’s so talented! Her new album “So Long Little Miss Sunshine” is coming out Aug 15 – can’t wait! :-)

Dwight, so glad you enjoyed the post. We got some rain last night so things are looking good out there and not so much a sauna. Yes on Molly Tuttle!

Yipes! We *just* got back from the beach. It was SO NICE. Never saw so many people at that beach before. A free and easy way to cool down. Granddaughter had such a good time. We were sifting through the sand for fossils and I taught her how to skip a rock. We went for ice cream afterwards and I got a banana split, which I haven’t had in a decade or more. It was so yummy.

Great song, thanks for the heads up. And yes, those gourds should dry and shake nicely!

V, I hope last night’s rain grows more of the baby gourds. Right now only 3 of any size. I do have a lot more seeds though. This year was an experiment. Next year look out!

Love the song! I heard that not long ago on some blog because I love that intro…probably on Christians.
Anyway I never thought about growing gourds…that is cool!

Yes, she is a winner. These gourds grow themselves but they need strong trellises and lots of water to make many grow.

What do you do with them? I know that sounds like a stupid question

They are called birdhouse gourds, but there are other uses for them, including storage vessels and possibly musical instruments.

Ok…yea I knew about the musical part but I didn’t know they were called that…this is the stupid part…I didn’t know if anything edible came out of them but I don’t guess they would since they are hollow! LOL… sometimes I surprise myself!
Oh I cooked something again tonight…it was creamy chicken gnoochi…I’m stuck on gnoochi…Jennifer is happy.

I know there are many kinds of gourds. Some may be edible, so don’t be so hard on yourself! Fantastic on the gnocci!

After I asked it…I thought how stupid lol. But if you don’t ask you won’t know.
As Jennifer said recently….”no man has ever been killed while cooking dinner or cleaning the kitchen” LOL. I told her…well I’ll take my chances thank you very much. No…I’m actually getting into cooking…she cleans up without question.
