dVerse – Q228 –Fishcake Promise, aka Fishy Promise

Fishcake Promise aka Fishy Promise

You promised me
fishcakes with tartar sauce,
splashes of lemon and malt,
potatoes and brussel sprouts
roasted with garlic and dill.

Headed home,
I stopped at dessertery,
mouth-watering at sugared air.

Home: you weren’t there,
except for your lingering
wrong smell of certain deceit.

Mish is today’s host of dVerse’ Quadrille Monday. Mish wants us to write a 44-word poem using the word fish.

Well that’s different Lisa! I love the play on words in the title, and the ‘potatoes and Brussel sprouts roasted with garlic and dill’ made my mouth water. I think our noses are designed to pick up on the ‘lingering wrong smell of certain deceit’.

Thanks much, Kim. Who knows why the muse writes what she writes. She insisted on the fishcakes and was disappointed when they weren’t there for her.

OH NO! Where is that dinner (first stanza a favorite meal of mine) I will come help you find ‘the bozo.’ Love this quadrille, Lisa.

Helen I was hungry for that meal also. Instead I had to eat key lime pie :) Let bozo run away with the circus.

Man, I wish I had this superpower, The ability to notice the “lingering

  17. Lisa, I feel the turn in “your lingering / wrong smell of certain deceit” so sharply—like betrayal wafting in the air. There’s something beautifully unsettling about how the sweetness of the promised meal collapses into absence.
