Wee Troubadour
Last summer’s three, she climbed the chunky boulder,
playing follow-the-leader to the little seven boy, there
with his dad, and leapt off when we weren’t looking.
She bent her knees as we’d instructed, but her lips
hit a knee. Her lips swelled along with bleed. Tears.
This summer’s four climbs her rocky friend with more
in mind. Its elevated flat top makes a perfect stage.
She waits until her audience is seated and turned
with full attention. Her vivace chanson angelic, her
pipes so pure, in her original lyrics, easy as breath.
I wonder where we, and who she, will be summer next?
Terms used from the glossary:
vivace = lively, is commonly used as an indication of tempo.
chanson = “A chanson is a French song. The word is used to indicate songs from the troubadour compositions of the Middle Ages to the art-songs of the 19th and 20th centuries.” Although she is not singing in French, her words are hard to understand and sound like another language. The boulder is in the middle of the park, near the koi pond and waterfall, but she often sings as we are traveling through, as a troubadour would.
Note: I could not find an image of a child singing without a microphone in front of their mouth, so I picked another image of mine instead.
Merril is today’s host for dVerse’ Poetics. Merril gave us a lot of options to support the prompt. We are to choose to choose two (or more) musical terms from the glossary (linked above) and write a poem.

Oh I love this developing song of childhood. How fortunate you are to be able to experience it with her! 💙

This poem is so lovely, Lisa, a reminder that children grow up so quickly. I love how the boulder went from ‘playing follow-the-leader’ to ‘a perfect stage’. Children’s own songs are so sweet.

they grow so quickly. But we continue seeing the child in them. May that never change. Lovely, dear Lisa.
this poem about Her vivace chanson was inspirational. I had to write about a chanson I remembered. Thanks for that. Blessings.

Selma, I love it that we both chose chanson out of the glossary. As messed up as the world seems to be right now, these memories will carry us through <3

Chanson. Yes.
And yes for the memories that are going straight to our memory banks. Hope they stay active forever. Thanks Lisa.

Singing is a great advance on showing off one’s jumping and you captured it beautifully Li – enhanced with the musical terms…

I remember being invited to a teenagers party… I’m not sure why I was there as I really didn’t know anyone. I remember entertaning the adults by dancing, while the friends seemed to locate somewhere else.
The years do pass too quickly. My great Nephews are 3 1/2!

Sounds like an awkward memory at best. Are you saying you have twins in your family?? Very cool.
