#FF — One More Time (fan-fic)

One More Time

Ripley stretches her new body, disturbing Jones’ sleep. He meows in protest, stands, hunch-stretches, and heads for the kitty box.

Coffee! Her body says.

Espresso gurgles and steams. Ripley’s lips have just touched the rim of the cup when her comms unit goes off.

We need you,” says Commander Goatsleeve.

Ripley’s body tenses, and Jones, who’s been curling around her ankles, hisses.

She’s fought the bitch on LV426 twice, suicided on the prison planet, survived gene-splicing with her, and has passed the torch to archeologist Shaw.

But Shaw’s gone now.

Nostromo Ten approaches the planet.

Jonesy meows softly on Earth.

Note: This is fan-fic for the Alien series of movies. Ripley has always been my Number 1 movie hero when I saw her kick the alien’s ass again and again, despite overwhelming odds and terror that would have paralyzed anyone else. I was pissed when they left Ripley behind for other strong (and some stupid) female replacements. I want Ripley back, and I want her played by Sigourney Weaver, the inimitable Ripley.

For those who aren’t familiar with the series, I wrote up a detailed review/analysis of the series, except for the last movie, which hadn’t been made at the time. Read my review/analysis here.

I liked “Alien” (1979) and “Aliens” (1986) but for me, the franchise faltered after that.

I loved them all except for the 6th one (Covenant) which was garbage. The most recent one is ok but totally detached from the story line of the previous movies.

Nancy, good way of describing it. The making of it was very interesting, and it has endured the test of time.

V, the FF story made me realize I didn’t have my big write-up available on my own blog, so I had to put it together and re-find pics and some of the trailers to make it happen. Oh my goodness, you need to see them, but I don’t think your nerves would take a binge of it. Be prepared if you do!

Aliens is one of my husband’s favorite movies – and I like what you did here… I could almost smell that espresso and then felt startled when the comms unit spilled out “We need you…”

Not familiar with the franchise, but I do remember the original Alien. Who could not? Nothing will come close to it, and I agree, Sigourney Weaver could have been born for that role. Good writing and vivid imagery here. But I’m a cat lover, I would say that, wouldn’t I?

Thanks much, Keith! If I win the lotto I will hire Denis Villeneuve *and* Guillermo del Toro to direct Sigourney in sequel that brings back all of my favorite characters along the way of the series that are now in new bodies. Of course, Michael Biehn as Corporal (now Sergeant) Hicks will return. And Newt, who now will fight side by side with Ripley. They will finish that bad b and her descendants for good!

I love this FanFic and immediately knew of which Ripley you were talking about. I admit to not having seen more than the original though I think I might have seen the second. Still. Excellent! And you are so right. NO ONE can replace Sigourney Weaver!

Dale, happy you know who she is and that she is irreplaceable. I like Noomi Rapace in Prometheus as archeologist Elizabeth Shaw, but Ripley should have been/be in EVERY Alien movie.

  11. I’m coming to really respect fanfiction as a way of people communicating with each other about what they like about a thing. About what they’d like to see next and open up a dialogue. That’s not just the “I didn’t like the sequel cause it’s spoiled my favourite bit” routine but also the “wouldn’t this be nice?” Or “so This is how I see it” so anyone is a bit sneery about fanfiction should sort of realise what it actually is… Is as valueable in the comments below the line as it is in the execution

Totally agree, Steve. I don’t do it unless I’m a rabid fan, and the only ones interested are probably rabid fans also.

  12. Dear Lisa,

I never saw any of the Alien movies so this one pretty much sailed right over my head as far as point of reference goes. I was left wanting to know more.

Wonderful, Lisa. Alien was groundbreaking SF. Aliens the best of the lot, IMO. I liked #3, and even #4, but stopped watching after that. A good story needs an end, trying to squeeze the last bit of life out of it for money bores me. There are so many new-ish ideas and stories out there, why constantly warm up the old and ruin beloved stories and characters?
