Really and I

Daily writing prompt
If you had to give up one word that you use regularly, what would it be?

I think many writers turn to certain words or phrases as shortcuts when they don’t have time to articulate something in more detail.  The word I know I use way too much is “really.”

Another biggie I would like to give up would be “I.”  Using it too much gives the impression of egotism or self-centeredness.  It should go without saying that anything you’re sharing is from you and is your opinion.

  1. I think you’re making a really good point here!😂

On a more serious note, overusing certain words is quite common – probably even more so when speaking when most folks use filler words. I still remember how shocked I was to watch myself on video during a presentation training years ago. I wasn’t aware of most of the odd things I did!

Oh dear! We live in a cocoon of our own self-illusion. Best not to think to much about it.

Happy it was a wake-up call for you. Hoping it was meant from his heart.

I use the word “well” too much to start sentences. I look back on my posts and I use it a lot. I use “I” a lot as well! There we go with the “well” again.

LOL Max. As much as we blog there are bound to be favorite words we use. Moi (there, not “I”) thinks there is a program that you can use that will compile the words used. Moi isn’t sure moi wants to go there. lol

That’s a good question. I’m sure I have a stock of about 50 words that I repeat. I’d have to think about which one might be the most annoying.

“I” is probably used by all of us way too much. (K)
