Thanks to Lesley, who invited me to “Suno: AI Music” I just took some lyrics I wrote awhile back and plugged them into the program and this is what it came up with. I had to create a free account in order to do it, but here it is. Very interested in hearing impressions. Please be 100% honest, about the song, the lyrics, using AI to create it, etc.

Amazing Lisa! It is a very nice sounding song, but it seems to me there is something repetitive and lacking in human feeling and spontaneity in the music.

Dwight, thank you for your honest opinion. AI isn’t very human is it. With this program, it generated 4 songs, 2 pretty good ones and 2 others. The pretty good ones I could only hear a sample of. This is one of the others. To hear the 2 pretty good ones, you have to start a paying subscription to the service. Devious!

I really like this song very much! I like the story told in the lyrics, and the fiesty girlfriend telling off the boss man (haha). Music was good, good beat, and sung very well. I don’t want to like AI music though. I want it to be real people in a band good or bad, making real music with their voices and instruments. Not robot music. But all the ones I’ve heard so far I like! What a confusing deal. I like them but I don ‘t like them. Oh well, I’m glad you tried this out. Sounds like fun to see how it turned out with your writing. :)

Barbara, I appreciate your honest opinion of it. Look at my comment to Dwight about the process at the site and how they try to get you to spend $$ on it. That said, I like this song and it was a thrill to see my lyrics set to music.

I think this is fabulous. I love the beat and the words are perfect (said the mother of five kids)!! Well done. I think it’s fun to experiment with these programs. 💜

Wow, Lisa, you’re a rock star! :-)
I like the lyrics of the song, but I’m very conflicted about everything else, i.e., the music, the sound, the groove, etc., knowing it was all AI-created, not by a human being.
It’s not that the song is bad – in fact, had you not told me it’s AI-generated, I wouldn’t have known. And that’s what concerns me.
I feel art should be about genuine human creativity like the lyrics you wrote, not AI. I rather have “imperfect” art created by human beings than something “flawless” generated by AI-algorithms.
To be clear, I’m not opposed to AI in general. In fact, I it can be used for many good things including music. A compelling example is “Now And Then,” the final “new” Beatles song that used AI technology to isolate and clean up John Lennon’s voice from one of the demo tapes Yoko Ono had given to Paul in the ’80s. To me, the key point here is the technology was used for something that existed, not to create something artificial.
Like with pretty much any other powerful technology, unfortunately, there’s lots of room for abuse with AI. And that concerns me a great deal!

Christian, your comment is much appreciated. It is very concerning. I just wonder how it was able to create the song, the voice, etc. based only on my lyrics and genre likes. Not sure if you saw in another comment of mine where the program gave me 4 choices. 2 were notably better than the other 2 but i could only listen to a 1-min sample of the first 2 and could only listen to the whole thing if I signed up for a pay account. I believe you about the abuse potential.

I like it in a generic way, but I agree with Christian. It doesn’t sound like you–the lyrics do, but not the way they are presented. We have enough music that sounds like everyone else’s music. Find a musical collaborator to put your words to music if you don’t think you can do it.
Also, why is no one seemingly concerned about all the energy AI uses? You may say, “Oh, I only use a little bit” but it all adds up. It has already raised energy prices for consumers, and it may lead to energy rationing, especially since MAGA is killing wind energy. And the huge energy centers AI companies are building are just another nail in the coffin of the environment. (K)

Kerfe, thanks for the feedback. I really hate AI, as you may know, mostly for writing and artwork, but music is also a poor use for it. I like the way the song sounds but the music is generic as you guys said. A friend of mine gave me stats on how much energy (and water) it uses to keep the machines cool.

I think it would be fun, as so much technology is, but also a rabbit hole for eating time, also as so much technology is. I really believe we had more time for both each other and ourselves before computers and the internet. It’s not just nostalgia.

You have a good point there, K. It is a big time waster, especially as there is no way I’m paying $$ for an AI program.

Cindy, thanks so much! I was surprised how easily the program built a song around the lyrics.

Hi Lisa
A coincidence… I was over at a friend’s house last Saturday and he introduced me to this program. He’s a musician, producer and songwriter and he was using the program to take rough mixes of songs and re-record them . The results in some cases were amazing, particularly on an Irish pub song he was writing. It really cuts out a lot of effort and studio time. Is it the future? I’m not sure but it’s here and it’s not going away. And I like what it did with your lyrics but that’s because the lyrics are good to begin with and you nailed that essential component…the chorus! Well done…JIM

I know another poster who uses this site. At first I thought the vocals were hers… but then she also had something with a male voice. I’ve looked into Suno… and while I think I might like to try it – well it just seems a bit complex for my skills.
Anything that keeps your clock ticking – well done!

Jules, all I did of it was plug my lyrics in and choose a few genres of music I like. It chooses the rest, including gender of the singer. I would like to use it as a toy on my own computer but I don’t like the company keeping it. Who knows what they will do with it (use it for other AI? sell it as a demo to others?)

All that you’ve said… that last bit espsecially. I worry enough about my stuff being used without my permission. So I probably won’t do anything but listen to others attempts. I think AI might be good for some things. But I like human interation and learning from mistakes too.

Jules, thank you for giving it a chance and I appreciate your thoughts on it. That’s the missing piece: human interaction. And yes, learning and getting better along the way.

I like the tunes I’ve made up for my own pieces. I don’t think I’m ready for AI to do it for me. I’m also not really musically inclined. So I’ll listen to my friends post on that “S” site. But not quite ready to go all in yet. And Good Luck to those who do. :)

Nice job on the song Li! I can remember making my first one and now… it’s therapy. Before going to bed, I write my own lyrics, set my prompts, double-check for grammar issues, and then click enter. When I wake up, I treat myself to some tunes as a way to jump start my morning! Keep it up!
