Road to Heaven
Susie and Derek met as young’ns. Susie’s dad was a preacher on the tent revival circuit, and Derek’s made sure the trucks kept a-going and the tent didn’t blow over in the OK winds. Every evening, before Papa Ted preached his fire and brimstone, Susie, Derek, and the other children strummed their stringed instruments along with the Sacred Choir’s hymns. Afterwards, the children passed the donation plates. Always enough to get them to the next town.
Both papas are in heaven now, but Susie and Derek are still on the road, still strumming and singing the music leading to heaven.

I’ve been listening to the Tedeschi Trucks Band lately and Rochelle’s image was a perfect opportunity to spread the word about them. They are phenomenally talented!
p.s. The story itself is entirely fictional (afaik!)
Rochelle Wisoff-Fields is the host of Friday Fictioneers.

Always good to spread the music, as well as the word. (K)

I love your story, Lisa. A great take on the prompt! I loved the wicked blusey sound of your musicians! I have not heard of them before!

Dwight, glad you liked the story :) Yes, I happened on them when I came across a collaboration they did with Doyle Bramhall II, who I am a big fan of. Then Kerfe suggested a 4-disc set by them. Will be doing a playlist of my favorites of theirs. This will be one of them. She also plays guitar :)

Good story and even better song. I’ve listened to some of Tedeschi Trucks Band’s music and agree they are dynamite. Derek Trucks perhaps is the best contemporary slide guitarist, and Susan Tedeschi certainly isn’t a slouch either. I hope to see them one of these days – hopefully next year!

I would love to see them live. Their 12-piece band is outta this world.

p.s. don’t you think she sounds like a little rougher version of Bonnie Raitt? I love how Derek plays that slide!

I think that’s a fair comparison!
