FFF 54 — Tedeschi Trucks Band — I am the Moon top 6 favorite songs

Kerfe mentioned borrowing “I Am the Moon” from the library and I found it on Spotify and have listened the pixels off of it. Today’s post will be sharing who Tedeschi Trucks Band (TTB) are, where this 4-album set rests within their discography, and what my 6 favorite cuts off of it are.  I will be including YouTubes and lyrics as well as a spotify playlist at the bottom.  About 39 minutes of your time is all I ask (yes, I know that’s a lot!)   Note on YTs, I found the best live ones I could but honestly there aren’t many high quality audio studio-produced videos.  Where I couldn’t find a decent recording, I used the visualizer.  The spotify playlist has cuts right from the album(s.)

Per wiki, TTB is an American blues and blues rock group based in Jacksonville, Florida. The band is led by married couple Susan Tedeschi (pronounced tu DESS key) and Derek Trucks. Their debut album, Revelator (2011,) won the 2012 Grammy Award for Best Blues Album.

After touring together in 2007, as the Derek Trucks & Susan Tedeschi’s Soul Stew Revival, the couple merged their respective groups to form TTB in 2010. The band has released five studio and three live albums.

On April 20, 2022, TTB announced I Am the Moon, a quadruple album featuring 24 original songs which was released in four parts throughout the year, beginning with
I. Crescent on June 3,
II. Ascension on July 1,
III. The Fall on July 29, and
IV. Farewell on August 26.
The album was also released as a box containing all four parts on September 9. Conceptually, the project is based on the story of Layla and Majnun, a romantic poem of Arabian origin about star-crossed lovers. It was ranked as the 10th best guitar album of 2022 by Guitar World readers.

TTB is currently preparing a new studio album for release in 2026.  Not sure if what I just pre-ordered is it,  an album that re-visits, “Mad Dogs and Englishmen.” It is currently available on Spotify; check it out if you get a chance.

Fall In

Fall in
He come on like a lover's slap
Free you out from your trap
In this world who do that?
Fall in
The crazy with the cartoon hair
Pie-eyed popcorn stare
Tell me can you take us there?

Fall in
You ride 'em on a Western rail
Turn us 'round by the tail
We'll follow you straight to hell

Fall in
The wigglation in his walk
The Cincinnati in your sway
And we ramble till the break of dawn

Fall in
Fill your glasses way up high
You never felt as free as this
With a saxophone upon your lips

Fall in
The Devil's just a point of view
Hiding in the details, true
How will they remember you?

Fall in
The Devil's just a point of view
Hiding in the details, true
How will they remember you?

Fall in
Ride 'em on a Western rail
Turn us round by the tail
We'll follow you straight to hell
We'll follow you straight to hell

The wigglation in your walk
The Cincinnati in your sway
And we ramble till the break of dawn
Fall in
Fall in
Fall in

The wigglation in your walk
The Cincinnati in your sway
And we ramble till the break of dawn
Fall in
Fall in
Fall in
Fall in
Fall in

So Long Savior

So long savior
I'll be right behind
Reaching for his garment
Left us here to cry
Should have seen it coming
Fire in the sky
Water's all around us
No room on the ark this time

Sail on savior
Where have you gone?
All the way to glory
Heard it in a song
We all know the reason
We've been left behind
Head on home to heaven
Hope I get to see you sometime

Cheer up children
All my seeds are sown
Climbing up the ladder
Got problems of my own
After change of season
A chill is in the air
When it's time to cross the river
You better pay your fare
If I don't see you there
Try to get it right next time

Gravity

She pulled you in and she held ya
Yeah, she made you believe
Must be the power of her big old heart
Woman's got gravity
Can't help yourself but be around her
She's everywhere you turn
She'll make you fly or she'll lay you down low
Without a single word

She's got gravity
If you get knocked down
She'll put you back on your feet
Gravity
If you get too high
She'll put you back on your knees
And if you give up on love
She'll make you believe, oh yeah

She doesn't give you everything you want
'Cause she knows a man
She'll give you all you don't know you need
Until you understand
She can carry twice the load you can
And bare twice the pain
Try to fight her if you want to
She's gonna put you to shame

She's got gravity
If you get knocked down
She'll put you back on your feet
Gravity
If you get too high
She'll put you back on your knees
And if you give up on love
She'll make you believe

She's got gravity
If you get knocked down
She'll put you back on your feet
Gravity
If you get too high
She'll put you back on your knees
She's got gravity
If you get knocked down
She'll put you back on your feet
Gravity
If you get too high
She'll put you back on your knees
And if you give up on love
She'll make you believe
She'll make you believe
Whoa, you better believe it

Last Night in the Rain

Last night in the rain
I dreamed of loving you
Woke up in the kitchen
But you had flown the coop
Went down to the station
To catch the morning train
One ticket to lonely
One ticket to Spain

Let me hear you say
There's nothing wrong with rain
Wash the dream away

I could be there in an instant
You don't know, boy
What you're missing
Can you hear me?
Did you listen?
Last night in the rain
'Cause we lost everything

Got a letter from nowhere
Got a letter from you
It was already opened
Addressed to somebody new
I read the words on the paper
I saw the look on your face
It was message delivered
But the feelings remain

And if you only knew
What I would do to you
I'm just a step away

I could be there in an instant
You don't know, boy
What you're missing
Did you hear me?
Did you listen?
Last night in the rain
'Cause we lost everything

Ooh we lost everything
Ooh we lost it all in the rain

D’Gary

When I was just a child
I had big dreams on my mind
Crossed the whole world over
In my mind so many times
I was miles away
Between the sunset and the moon
Holding onto make-believe
I hope I get there soon

Hold me closer, don't let go
To the truth that we all know

Up the creek without a paddle
Down the street without a name
Lying eyes are wicked
I will never be the same
Loneliness is hollow
It suits nicely to your frame
Tired bones lay dying
As it all goes down the drain

Live your dreams, don't let go
Hold on closer
To the truth that we all know

Faded dreams in worn-out jeans
Keeps us smiling all the same
Harsh winters fade away
And summer's all ablaze
The scent of a baby's head
And a twinkle of their toes
Melts your heart to buttermilk
In ways you'll never know

Live your dreams, hold on tight
And don't let go
Of the truth that we all know

Glyn, I’m hooked on them. They remind me the Allman Brothers Band. When you have 4 excellent songwriters and 3 (or more) excellent singers in a group, you have yourself a winner.

Thanks for showcasing this band, Lisa. Your comparison with Allman Brothers tracks for me.
