dVerse’ — MTB/Form — “Bike Ride: ‘nother ending”

Bike Ride – ‘Nother Ending

rails are paved, conveyance on flat measures
shoes and tired frames are bouncing bumps
graded; right direction’s comfort’s treasure
long arms, green sleeves, holes of chainsawed stumps
reaching out to thrill and feeling season’s flux
winds are brushing cheeks with humus in the air
dappled shadows flicker autumn movies’ flair
sparkles on the river, geese are taking flight,
honking as they rise in elegance, we share
‘nother season’s ending, bathed in golden light

Grace is today’s host of dVerse’ Meet the Bar/Form Thursday. Grace wants us to write a dizain form poem.

Love the last three lines especially. The golden light of fall is truly beautiful. The geese have been stopping nearby on their migration path. I do enjoy watching them and listening for their honk, honk, honk. Too cold for bike riding now for me.

Truedessa, so happy you connected with the poem. They were lifting off in groups that day, along the river.

I put my bike and bike carrier in the garage today. It was probably my last ride for the season also.

Awesome, Kerfe. Do you ride bikes? I think I mentioned this before but I think riding a bike through Central Park would be a ride of a lifetime.

I only ride an exercise bike now. It’s very dangerous out there, and honestly, bikers are one of the biggest problems as they never stop for pedestrians or obey the traffic lights. Too many ebikes too.

Oh so sorry to hear that, Kerfe. Do they make any attempt to have designated bike lanes or pedestrian protected lanes? Don’t get me started on e-bikes! I hate them! They have e-unicycles and e-razors (or whatever they call those things that look like skateboards with a navigating column the rider holds onto.) They were zooming in and out of the slower riders (i.e. people like my friend and I,) old people toddling along, and people with strollers. Like mopeds, they need to stay on motorized paths imo, or have a documented medical reason for having them and maintain a SLOW speed limit. I wouldn’t want to deprive a person unable to pedal a bike from getting out in nature, but there need to be limits. And they are making these things go faster and faster :(

There are bike lanes in a lot of places, but pedestrians have to cross them to cross the street and when the bikers are paying no attention to the right of way or when the bikes ride the wrong way on them, it makes it difficult. Also the delivery people (and there are so many of them) are almost all on e-bikes. The city council keeps talking about regulating them but doing nothing. Also the batteries have killed a number of people when they caught fire inside apartments (you are not supposed to keep them there, but…) In Central Park, bikers are supposed to give way to pedestrians to cross the roadways, but they almost never do. Riverside Park has a bike path, but the male bikers in their biker outfits who travel in packs prefer Riverside Drive and they are a danger to both pedestrians and cars. I once stopped in front of a couple of them when I was trying to cross at a red light and yelled “There’s a red light!” My daughter almost had a heart attack, but I didn’t think they would really hit me. They did curse me though, as they nearly sideswiped the car that was waiting at the light. I can only imagine how dangerous it is for the people walking and moving slowly where you are with scooters (don’t get me started about them…) and e-bikes weaving in and out. People are so self-absorbed and inconsiderate. It’s no wonder our country is falling apart.

I’m glad you were OK! You’re right, it is a symptom of a larger issue.

Steve, thanks very much. I’m sure You and Sweety would love the path. I prefer it less busy but it was nice to see so many people out and using it on a Sunday.
