#FF — A Moment of Realization

PHOTO PROMPT © Roger Bultot

“A moment of realization is worth a thousand prayers.”
— Mr. Rabbit, per Mickey

Mallory is tired of a world stinking with brown. It’s all gone to shit. She can’t remember where it started, but she knows where it will end. Like a fish in a hooded tank that has been filled with too much water, there’s no room to breathe.

Where is Mickey now? Last she heard he was in Leavenworth. Looking up his inmate status, she finds he’s been paroled in Jackson.

She feels her body tingle as she pulls up outside of The Virginian. Her leather jacket pushes through squeaky batwing doors. He looks up from his black coffee — and smiles.

Love this execution of the prompt, Lisa. Picture selection was excellent. I also went back and caught up with your review of NBK. Great in-depth look at that flick.

I hope you do, Dale. I need to watch it again also. The main thing to remember is that it is satire. I have met at least one person — my ex — who took it very seriously. Scary!

  6. Dear Lisa,

There’s a special place in my heart for fanfic. It’s how I started writing. This one escapes me as far as scope of reference but it’s well written nonetheless. Leaves me wanting to know what followed his smile.

    Shalom and Happy Thanksgiving,

you gave us a nice bit of action in this short fiction – and I liked “no room to breathe” – and then her getting to see his smile….

Prior, I’ve written multiple stories that end on a smile. There is something about it that challenges me and thrills me. I always hope that enough has been told in what comes before it that the reader may understand what’s in it.

Gabi, thank you. It’s a complex, clever film that may have been too clever for mainstream viewers to grok. Underappreciated cinema at its best.
