25 mph winds (power back on 3:50 a.m.)

2018 pic
a rumble grumbles at windows
grey of day makes visible
after a night of yew digging
siding outside of the bedroom
toppled tree power outage
seems imminent. fluffy snow
blown back, forth, up, and down
patchy white and green ground
coffee sips empty the pot
awake but all I want to do
is dream in my warm bed
of future summer beaches

it’s the day before T’giving.
I wonder how many flights
will be canceled? Curled
in my warm bed, I hope
birds and warm furred
creatures find shelter
through this winter storm

The outage beat me to the end of the poem. Posting this from my phone. Grrrrrrr!

Power has been restored.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

I saw you got a big hit of winter this week. Power’s out the day before Thanksgiving. That is a real bummer! Stay warm!! Hope they get you up and running soon!

The winds coming off the big lake are mighty right now. It gets loud. Power was restored a few minutes ago. Maybe I will be able to get some sleep now. I had to fire up the wood stove. Everything is toasty warm now, thanks. Dwight. Happy Thanksgiving <3

Well, I was freezing all night, but the power just got restored so things are warming up again. Happy Thanksgiving.

I can identify with power departing in mid-project. I also can identify with thinking of wildlife when weather turns poor, but I always remind myself they have survival instincts greater than me, and this isn’t their “first rodeo.” It’s getting windy here now, and you’ve got me thinking I better finish up my evening on WordPress before our power potentially takes leave for a while.⚡

Bruce, make sure you have batteries for your outage standbys. I had to go out and buy some tonight and was thankful all of the stores were still open. On the plus side, I still have about a cord of wood from last year so got the wood burner heating the place up. Power came back on a half hour ago, happily. Happy Thanksgiving :)

Oops. Falling trees are a definite cause of outages.

V it’s back on. My plans for T’day are watching the snow fall and the birds hopping around in it. Older son is down with some bug or another (that’s what happens when you work in a hospital) so we are tentatively planning for Sunday for the gathering. Hope you have a great day. I got up at 1 p.m. after going to bed at 7 a.m.

I get it, we live on the coast and get south and west, it rattles the nerves when they’re gales.

Dale it was all done but for the last line. The power literally went out then. Hardest part was figuring out how to log in on my phone. We have our gathering tentatively planned for Sunday. Older son has a bug that’s going around his workplace and he doesn’t want to pass it on to us. Hope you have a wonderful T’day <3

That’s not too bad, then. And yeah, it is not easy with the phone. Sunday is okay. Our Thanksgiving is always on a Monday and we usually celebrate on the Sunday :)
Hope you are having a lovely day.

Sounds like a good place to be, in a warm bed while a storm rages outside. I liked the poem… glad you didn’t lose it in the outage!

Steve, it is funny but my plan was to go into that warm bed right after finishing the poem (which auto-saved, thankfully) but then… “All’s well that ends well.”
