Life Waves
“Isn’t it funny how life’s waves wash over us with a certain rhythm?” Serena says to no one in particular as she reclines in her ergolounger, gazing at Lake Michigan.
“It sure is,” says Pete.
Serena looks behind her, where the bass voice is coming from.
A tall, tanned man in neon green trunks is stretched out on his stomach on his peace towel.
His handsome, sunglassed face smiles.
“I can take baby waves, but no tsunamis,” Serena says.
“I had one of those in December, when my wife left me,” says Pete.

As sun sets, they walk back to their cars together.

It’s hard to pin-point just where the appeal of the story lies – but appeal is there in abundance. Whether it’s the sense of a tragedy left behind, the possibility of new beginnings, or just a sense of the natural evolution of tragedy… I loved it. Well done.
