dVerse Poetics Tuesday — Snow Siren Sea

Snow Siren Sea

I like its brightness on scape,
white bleaching in stillness
my warm house like a cozy ship,
through portholes gaze upon
frozen sea, where I imagine,
bundled up, winter sailor, I brave
to swim through it with muk-
a-luks to island of parting siren.

Warming frozen lock with mittened
paws, it blessedly clicks.
Oh memory, ice solid,
that indeed the tank is nectar full
for shining beauty with her special,
whirling song. Foolish
be the blockade of unliquid
crystal flakes and boulders

who, mesmerized, riff
and flee with their own beguilement.
Cherry-cheeked, sparkly-eyed,
I trudge and turn in time,
a winter puppet’s pirouette,
round and round, in their dance.
Soon all weary, we retire
to our places, frozen, warm, a-rest.

Kim is today’s host of dVerse’ Poetics Tuesday. Kim says:
I would like you to write about snow as you see, feel or imagine it, in any form you wish, using clear imagery as crisp as fresh-fallen snow.

  5. I like snow and the pretty white coating it can put on trees and other objects – but everything in moderation, especially when it comes to driving in snow or snow shoveling!😆

Christian, I’ve been snowed in since Friday and will be going out there in a few minutes to bring this scene to life. I can’t see the footprints from when I walked out to the mailbox yesterday. I tried to get into the garage yesterday but the lock is frozen. Going out there with WD40 and a handwarmer packet and hope it works. I know exactly what you mean about the moderation.
      Enough is enough!

      1. Jeez, now I feel a bit like an idiot after hearing about your situation. While I assume you are used to plenty of snow, dealing with it still must be very burdensome. Here’s to hoping for an early spring! :-)

Christian, please don’t idiotize yourself ;) It’s Michigan. They don’t call it The Big Mitten for nothing. YES on early spring.

Lisa, I too absolutely loved the concept of the warm house as a cozy ship, and immediately imagined ours as being similar…looking out our porthole windows today at a sea of frozen white. This is one of my all-time favorites you’ve written. Excellent!

Very nicely written, Lisa. You know all about snow where you live. I really like you description of being a sailor on a sea of snow. You will definitely need your mukluks in all that snow!

Dwight, I had quite a day today. County plow knocked my mailbox off! Had to climb down into the ditch to get it and twined it back on the heavy metal pole it rests on. Then the lock on the garage was frozen so I had to “de-ice” it with WD40 and a glove warmer packet. Finally got going on it and that part was ok.
Back inside my ship warm and cozy.

Best of luck to you on your storm and DONT OVERDO IT on shoveling, please. If you make any snow angels or snow people please take pics :)

I love the sibilant title, Lisa, and the stunning scene you paint of snow – I’m almost tempted by the ‘white bleaching in stillness’. I also love the sailing metaphor and the foolish ‘blockade of unliquid crystal flakes and boulders / who, mesmerized, riff / and flee with their own beguilement.’
