#SLS — new artist to me — Julianna Riolino — Macca cover: “Every Night”

I first posted on Julianna Riolino in October 2025 after hearing her on Spotify’s Release Radar.  I love the smooth graveliness of her voice.  I like the passion with which she sings.  I like her songwriting abilities.  I like how she cut her teeth in at least one excellent band before deciding to go solo.  I like her natural band leadership ability.  There isn’t much about Julianna that I don’t like.  I can’t think of even one thing.  I predict she is going to keep rising in name recognition and popularity in the world of music.   Remember, you read it here, folks!

The song I chose to share for today’s prompt is a Paul McCartney cover.  The first time I heard it, I hit repeat and it became an earworm of the best kind.

Julianna and backing band, The Outfit, did a series of songs, called, “Live at the Farm,” in rural Ontario.  All of her other songs I’ve heard so far are originals, but I just came across this cover of Paul McCartney’s song, “Every Night.”  There is something about it has me wanting to share it.  Folks, mark my words, Julianna is an up-and-comer.

From The Fat Angel Sings about Live at the Farm:
Riolino has shown that same duality in her role as a member of cult favourite Daniel Romano’s backing band, The Outfit, here utilizing Romano as a guitarist and putting a tighter focus on her powerful vocals.

From pc pdx.com:
Daniel Romano’s Outfit is a Canadian indie-rock band led by Daniel Romano and featuring Julianna Riolino (vocals and guitar,) David Nardi (guitar,) Tony “The Pope” Cicero (organ,) Roddy Rosetti (electric bass), and Ian Romano (drums.)

She was still with her prior group for the cover.

The Less I know is a compelling tune written by her.  Riolino is described as a Toronto alt-country artist.   When she was with Daniel Romano’s Outfit, she said her role in the band was largely vocals. In 2022, her debut solo album, All Blue, was released. Her 2nd studio album, Echo in the Dust, was released in October of this year. Find a full review of the album at Exclaim.com.

Jim Adams is the host of Song Lyric Sunday. This week Jim wants us to find a song by an artist that you just discovered.

  1. I get your enthusiasm about Julianna Riolino. She sounds pretty compelling in both songs you called out here! I had forgotten about that Paul McCartney song. Riolino does a great job with her rendition. In fact, I might prefer it over the original!
