Hand and Glove

Holling and I met at university, in the Forestry Program’s biology lab. We teamed up as lab partners, then as more.

Darla, we’ve been together six months. I want you to meet my family.”

Flying in a small private plane over dense forest towards the northernmost tip of the Upper Peninsula of MI, I noticed a palatial structure.

What’s that, Holling?”

It’s our new hospital, sweetheart.”

Holling’s family met us at the single landing strip.

After Mama’s bear hug, she said, “We’re gonna put some meat on those bones!”

That night, at Porky’s, I understood the whys of both.
