Hand and Glove
Holling and I met at university, in the Forestry Program’s biology lab. We teamed up as lab partners, then as more.
“Darla, we’ve been together six months. I want you to meet my family.”
Flying in a small private plane over dense forest towards the northernmost tip of the Upper Peninsula of MI, I noticed a palatial structure.
“What’s that, Holling?”
“It’s our new hospital, sweetheart.”
Holling’s family met us at the single landing strip.
After Mama’s bear hug, she said, “We’re gonna put some meat on those bones!”
That night, at Porky’s, I understood the whys of both.

“New hospital” and “meat on those bones.” I sense a connection.

Yes, fatty food, heart disease, bypass surgeries, and hospitals are connected. Thanks, James!

Dale, it could be something nefarious, or maybe they just don’t want a skinny in their family ;) Thanks so much, my dear.

Wow Lisa – you paced a surprising amount of foreshadowing into just a few lines – what started out as a romance turned into a rural gothic horror! Brilliant 👏
