dVerse MTB Thursday — Ensightened

Ensightened

when twenty twenty digits wane
to blurred
twixt near and far, from crisp to furred,
insane,
unless one enjoys being blind,
to stay
in state of being, earthworm way
unspined.
may feeble vision be restored
post haste
now that decision has been made

so far from two struggling wobbles
to now
clear corrections of wordless wow
boggles
four eyes of line-free bifocals
sublime
sporty lightweight frames fit just right
ogle
far to near, both loved and abhorred
engaged
I dwell in clarity again

Laura is today’s host for dVerse’ Meeting the Bar. Laura says:And as today is 11th June we are taking one of those two legs and choosing one or other of these:

1. The Hendecastich by Michael Fantina

11 line poem
1 stanza
alternates iambic feet of four (tetrameter) and one (monameter)
i.e. syllables: 8-2-8-2-8-2-8-2-8-2-8
rhyme scheme: abbacddceff

Note: I can ony find 1 reference to this form here so it does not seem to have taken off – maybe some of us might give it a whirl

2. The Eleventh Power by Christina Jussaume,

11 line poem
1 stanza
11 syllables per line
rhyme scheme of abababccddd or ababababccc,
an uplifting theme

Dwight, thanks very much x 2. About cataracts, the optometrist/optician (not sure which one she is) said my eyes/lens look really good and nowhere needing any surgery.

Thanks, Maggie. These lineless bifocals are taking ongoing adjustment. The optometrist/optician said wear them 2 weeks all of the time so my eyes can adjust. It’s been an adventure so far.

  4. Excellent word crafting throughout this light hearted approach. I loved your ryhmes and was thinking what is she going to ryhme with bifocals? LOL well done and you have my respect for tackling the incorrigible Hendecastiche! 🙏

  6. Bravo Lisa so you chose to tie it all with the Hendecastich apparently a poetry style called ‘shoelaces’ –

hope the clarity onspires even more poetry and so much better than being

“in state of being, earthworm wayunspined.” ;)

Laura, thank you for the comment and for the forms to inspire <3 Yep, blind and unspined are in the rearview, as far as vision, now.

I went from perfect vison to bifocals in a weekend in my late 40’s. I had three days off and was putting together a website on the old 2000’s era WordPress and by the time I went back to work Monday, I had to grab a pair of readers out of the lost and found! heheheh The gift of site is real!

omigosh, V! The gift of “site” and “sight” :)

I could feel my sight diminishing and had been using a magnifying glass to read small print for awhile. The long vision was good enough but scary with night driving. My older son started hounding me through repetition and ridiculing (e.g. when I thought a log was an animal and that kind of thing.)

Glad we have things like glasses to help us out. These have anti-reflective lens and something with blue in it (son told me what to make sure they had.) My eyes are still bugging out with the adjustment, but opt. said that should be for only a few weeks. Fingers crossed.

  12. I hate my bifocals. They are just the wrong range for easily checking a student’s work over their shoulders. The preferred progressive lenses are a month’s wages where I am though. I’m going to have to bite the bullet some day soon because it’s such a struggle though.

I can’t imagine writing a Hendecastich about my plight and you’ve done a great job Lisa 👏

Shaun, I didn’t know progressive lens was another name for them. Just went out and read a little bit more on how they work and how to get them to work better. The cost, with optical coverage, was $400, which includes everything (exam, lens, frames) which is affordable for me. A friend of mine said she got 2 pairs of (non bi-focal) glasses for $200, so yes, costs more. I’ll let you know my thoughts on them after my brain has finished being trained on them.

Thank you on the poem :)
