#FFF 70 — Corsi-Rosenthal Box

This time I set this to post — at 9 PM. I need to get my act together! Also, this was written yesterday. The haze (smog) is notably worse today and was supposed to be gone by now.

The whole State of Michigan is getting hit with smoke from wildfires in Minnesota and Canada. It’s a haze that looks like fog, but it smells like smoke. A family member sent this AQI from early this morning and it is quite alarming. Along the lake ours was 300 but inland is generally worse. Now the haze is much worse from yesterday also.

I had dream group today and so was out driving in it. Since the A/C is out on the car, on the way there I kept the windows shut and the air circulating but it quickly got up to 85F — not comfortable. On the way home I said fuggit and rolled the windows down. I was cooler but breathing the air made me cough. Also because I’m on an energy plan where I save $$ on electricity if I don’t use much between 2pm and 7pm, I didn’t walk into a nice, cool house when I got home around 4. Even when I had the air on this morning, I could smell smoke inside, which means the A/C filters aren’t filtering it out. Older son sent me these plans of how to make your own Corsi-Rosenthal Box.

I was extremely happy to see this. Until I find out whether my mini-splits can be installed with a MERV I’d like to have one of these. I said so to son and the others in the chat. Son said he’d already built one and sent me a picture:

I asked him if he would make one for me. What I didn’t realize is that he made this one last year! He did say he had the materials to make another one — that’s my son! He said he would put it together and bring it over tomorrow.

The A/C has been on almost an hour now and things are cooling down. Looking outside, the haze continues and there isn’t even a hint of wind. Combining that with the 90F heat, it’s the worst day of summer.

What’s it like in your part of the world? Do you think you could benefit from a Corsi-Rosenthal box?

It’s a bad hot weather you have, especially when the AQI levels are high. That’s toxic.

Great question! This year, our weather is in the 36°C max with sunny days. No clouds; just sun. Our AQI is moderate at 93, so we don’t think we need a Corsi-Rosenthal box. We just need a fan to cool things down, but we also have to stay cool and hydrated.

So, take care and stay cool! ☺️ I hope you get a rainy day soon 🙏

Aptivi, 36 C is hot for here but it’s good your AQI is moderate. Thank you on the well-wishing. I think rain is coming within the next week (fingers crossed.)

I agree with you, 36°C is hot for us, too. You’re most welcome, Lisa.

        Sounds good. Fingers crossed ☺️

This morning the AQ was terrible in Irvine, CA, though not as bad as in Michigan. I immediately get itchy eyes and sinus problems from bad air, which is why I stay indoors a lot. There’s always a fire somewhere in California or those horrible Santa Ana winds or something. I may invest in an air purifier one of these days…

Yes, Paula, you need and air purifier. Or build one of these boxes. Also son said an N95 max filters out 95% of particulates.

  3. That box is genius. I’m glad your son is making you another. The air quality index here was 213 when I woke up this morning. We’ve mostly been inside today.

I agree on the box. Melissa, staying inside is probably a good decision. Looking at a random website just now it says ours is at 154.

I’m glad we didn’t get that down here…Randy told me how bad it was the other day up there. My air is out on my car as well…it sucks!

Oh I bet it is bad where Randy is. Ontario is about the same level of north as we are, believe it or not. I have an appt to get my car A/C fixed on Wednesday. With the heat and the traffic jams in GR I can’t safely go over there now, and then add the smoke. I did wear an N95 mask outside today when I went to the mailbox.

Oh geez…it does sound like everyone is trapped inside basically. I’m glad you are getting your car a/c fixed soon. Mine is shot…I have to get a compressor. Be careful in all of this.

One website said our AQI is down to 31 today. Most of the haze is gone. Still hot as hell and dry. My plants are not liking it. You should get your a/c fixed, Max.

Thanks. I had to go out to water plants. Also had to water plants in the atrium. I have started pulling the hose in and doing it that way. So much easier then carting bucket after bucket out there. I see the tomato plants and gourds have fruit on them. Lots of tomatoes! Yes! The plants are almost 6 feet tall believe it or not. Gotta get some pics of them.

Yep…work smarter not harder… that is great…gourds would be really cool! A neighbor brought over some freshly picked corn…oh I love it.

Lisa, our skies turned orange late Thursday afternoon, and we’re currently awaiting some rain to clear out this latest import from Canada. You can really feel the grit in the air, and it has been tough on humans and wildlife alike. Sounds like a bunch of us are in this mess. This box info is very interesting. Every little bit helps, right?

Bruce, it seems like so much of the eastern half of US is getting hit with it along with Canada. Yes, we need rain desperately also. The hardy plants keep drooping and that’s a problem. Yes, I don’t think you can filter air too many times. I need to see if mini-splits can have MERV filters added.
