Idyll
Lines and curves, shadows and light plaid themselves along the water. It’s an idyll I settled into after selling my home: seven-hundred square feet; one pet allowed; in-unit washer and dryer; roomy basement storage sections; and no H.O.A. fee!
I rise early, drink cuppajoe, and head out on my bicycle to CoffeeCat to sip, write, and people-watch. It’s a good summer life here; but winter is coming.
One morning I hear, “Hey there!”
A deep voice calls a couple of storage sections down. I look up to see him rolling his bicycle out.
“Care to join me for a ride?”

That really feels like a peaceful summer life. I had to look up “idyll”, I’m learning new words everyday.
Wonderfully written, Lisa 👍

It’s okay for some people without a care in the world. Or not, since winter is on the way.

I guess I’ve come to expect your stories to have a dark twist because I had to read this twice before I realized that nothing sinister had happened. :)

That sounds quite idyllic. Give me some beach, a bike, find a nice spot, a cafe, and read a book, have a paddle…
What a lovely story!

No H.O.A.? Is that Heaven? 🤩
I’m very suspicious of the guy offering a ride. It looks innocuous, maybe even exciting, but it comes after the ominous warning that “winter is coming.” As Mr. Martin has told us, all hell breaks loose following those words.
