dVerse — Heaven’s Guru

Heaven’s Guru

Soft, tender-voiced
demeanor,
proper-framed, safe,
bat-eared, emo-attuned,
gentled, timeless-eyed
dot in a sacred circle
bulls-eye to teach why
we aren’t crazy.

Lessons repeated
painted with scripture’s brush
her hand holds.

A beneficent-
regarding
bodhisattva,
teaching yet
from heaven’s
perch.

Today’s poem is dedicated to my guru and friend who led a support group for many years for victims of sexual assault. Her meticulous unraveling of the mechanics of how we are taught we are to blame for our abuse/exploitation and how it damages us as adults, made it possible for so many to begin and continue to heal over time. She passed away during the Covid years.

Punam is today’s host for dVerse’ Poetics Tuesday. Punam says:
For today’s poetics, please write a poem about your teacher; it could be your school/college teacher, parent/grandparent, spouse, child or  life itself. It can be a tribute or you could also write about the worst teacher you ever had. No form, rhyme or word restrictions.

  1. Brava to you and your friend, Lisa. We (women especially) need a guru and need TO BE a guru to other women. It’s not our fault. ❤️‍🩹

Nancy, I watched a new short interview with Gloria Steinem last night on Netflix. She made them agree not to air it until after she passed away. One of her great joys was a woman’s sharing circle she was a part of. I totally agree with you. My dream group fits the bill.

That’s very brave of your friend, Lisa! What a very heartfelt tribute. ☺️

Sorry to have to say this, but I have been dealing with Wi-Fi issues for more than 10 days, and it’s still crashing. Today’s a bit better, but we’ve dispatched a tech three days ago, and they still didn’t come, as it’s still crashing though less frequently. 😑

Yasan, good luck on the wifi. We are at the mercy of the machine. It is the price we pay to be able to communicate with each other.

Thank you, and writing the poem makes me remember all over again why and how she helped heal me.

Thank you so much for your kind words, Lisa! That made me smile. ☺️ You are absolutely right, that’s the price we pay to be able to communicate. 👍 I hope to get it sorted tomorrow, and keep you posted. 🙏

You’re most welcome. We need more people like her.

I’m so sorry that you lost your guru and friend to Covid, Lisa, and glad that she still teaches ‘from heaven’s perch’. I agree with Maggie and Punam.

Kim, thank you. What may have been the worst was not knowing until months after. I sent her a Christmas card and her husband wrote back and said she had passed. Because it was Covid she couldn’t even have a funeral.
