POPO 2026 Day 4

(written on July 7)

Ferns as gifts in mid-July 80s
present problems. Transplanting
for fauna (diggers) and flora tasks
logistics of time, place, and temp.
Unwilling to look into giver’s head,
perhaps she should’ve chosen spring
instead; and she probably would’ve
if she hadn’t tasked others to dig
in blazing heat, risking strokes
and deaths. Pocket change,
dancing fronds are worth it,
I guess.

Sorry I accidentally set this to publish for 9PM! Here it is, a little late.

I love what she said on that card….I hate saying it…but again! The post cards are top shelf.

  3. What a wonderful entry for POPO Day 4, Li! That quote by Cathay Williams on the postcard is so powerful, and I completely echoed Max’s praise for your top-shelf postcard art! The poem itself gave me such a smile—anyone who has tried transplanting gifted plants in the blistering mid-July heat knows the exact struggle you described. I loved memadtwo’s note about discovering Cathay Williams’ history through your post too. Those ‘dancing fronds’ really do make the hard work worth it!

OM, Marina Owens outdid herself on the postcards, I agree. Thanks so much for your thoughtful comment. They are all still alive and 1 allium plant also as a bonus. Can’t wait to see them in spring. Well worth the effort, I totally agree.

      1. Seeing them all burst into bloom in the spring is going to be so rewarding! That bonus allium is such a wonderful surprise, too. Wishing you a fantastic, peaceful, and green-thumb week ahead, Li!

    Interesting link. Thanks.

Oh… ferns. Best to transplant them in the spring – I think.
