Fate’s Welcome
Luna’s limelight lures, her mute scream’s casting call,
a promise, a pact wakes me within a dream, to fall
under sickly green Halloween spell, her price to tell.
She says my drowsing pleas to travel Cronos’ Well,
to past, where innocents have lost souls to darkveil;
to lift its curse with might, restore their sacred braille,
have been heard. She lays out terms without words.
Birds chatter me awake, morning’s sun, warm skin.
Eyelash flutters open to nothing, shadowed, grim.
Promises made under her limelight’s lure descend.
Fingers fly to puckered flesh, embossed forehead
of my Third Eye. Tenderly I press each small tick,
knowing soon in Cronos’ Well I will learn tricks to
save each innocent, my blindness but small price.
Sanaa is today’s host of dVerse’ Poetics Tuesday. Sanaa says:
Today, we are going to have fun and write deliciously spooky poems inspired by a playlist of songs. Choose ONE song of your liking from the playlist and write a poem. Let the music determine the mood, imagery, setting, and voice. The poem doesn’t have to retell the songs; instead, use each one as a doorway into a different Halloween world.
I chose:
“The Killing Moon” — Echo & the Bunnymen
Prompt: The moon becomes an omen. Write about a night when fate seems to be waiting for someone to make one irreversible choice.

I love this :D Such a cinematic feeling to this poem, Lisa! This part stood out to me; “She says my drowsing pleas to travel Cronos’ Well, to past, where innocents have lost souls to darkveil.”
Thank you so much for writing to the prompt ❤️❤️

There is so much here, the careful play with senses, their sacred braille, and her, laying out her terms…without words. Quite stunning, and stylistically the semantics carry a power of their own. So nicely done.

The sensory play with ‘sacred braille’ and the tension leading down into Cronos’ Well are absolute masterclasses in mood. Channeling that classic song into such a richly detailed narrative creates the ultimate Halloween atmosphere.

This is a deep and layered write Lisa – the Third Eye traded for sight that the innocents can’t give themselves is a quietly brutal piece of logic! Great writing 👏

Love how you did this… it works so well with the senses being elevated by darkness… also how it dissipates as a memory by the lights coming in.

The use of alliteration and rhyme is very effective in this enticing poem, Lisa. I love the ‘mute scream’s casting call’, a powerful sound in the first stanza, and the contrast of the birds chattering in the second stanza.

Great song choice Lisa – your transition from the dreamscape into the cold, harsh light of morning is so smooth it leaves a lingering sense of foreboding – great writing 🙌
