Hello All. Happy Friday! It’s been a whirlwind week and it isn’t over yet. Wednesday I went out for lunch to a place downtown called The Early Owl. I can’t remember what the building was years ago, but they’ve turned it into a bee-yoo-tiful restaurant. We had lunch up on the rooftop a few years ago and it was good, but it is a little too chilly for it now. The Early Owl serves breakfast all day and is open until 3pm, 7 days a week. I had strawberry pancakes that were pretty danged tasty, even if the 2 pancakes below the top were a little on the dry side. With 3 pancakes and coffee, the total was $18 without a tip. That’s a little bit pricey for pancakes in my book. The waitress was nice but a little slow on the service. While we were waiting for our food, I noticed the neat artwork gracing the walls and snapped a few pics.

I also noticed what looked like paddles hanging from a rack over the bar area. My friend said they were for flights of some kind of beer/ale/wine/cider. I thought they’d make good paddles for, “thank you sir, may I have another” (shameless Animal House quote.)

I’ve got a big problem with my houseplants. THERE ARE TOO MANY! I put all of the “corn plants” outside for the summer and they have thrived being out there. Now with approaching frost temps I need to get them back inside. It’s not just the corn plants. I have jades, rosemary I transplanted into a bigger pot, and others I can’t think of right now. Oh yes, the fruit trees, which I really really don’t want to bring back inside. They take up too much room. The plan was to have a plant sale, but it didn’t happen. I’ve started close to a dozen new jade plants inside also which are now sitting on the wood burner. My name is Lisa and I am a plant hoarder.

A friend and her neighbors have been having trouble with a whole family of groundhogs. They both set out live traps and the neighbor caught one and relocated it. The bait used was squash. The friend had put apples in hers and caught the same possum over and over again. Squash bait worked and here is the captured photo. This one has also been relocated far away from their home.

Finally a few pics around the yard. The pumpkin plants never produced a single fruit. Very discouraging. I got the skeleton cat to honor Dotty for Halloween. The witch hazel are producing what look like fruit. They are hard and smaller than an acorn. Will be keeping an eye on them. I have also included a pic of the “mat island” I worked on getting off of the driveway all last week. It is gone now. What a chore it was. I also learned that creeping Jenny (5 leaf vine) isn’t quite as bad as poison ivy but my arm still has an extremely itchy rash on it. Never again will I let a mat grow on my driveway.

Sounds like you had a great lunch, Lisa! I love those wonderfully drawn paintings, and the pancakes sound delicious. Would you recommend me try it out? ☺️🥞

Yum! We did the same thing yesterday morning. I had a delicious Belgian Waffle with a side of two eggs and sausage!
I love the artwork you saw at the restaurant.

Yum is right. One strawberry pancake and a nice capaccino would have been better for me. I agree on the artwork. It was fanciful with good colors.

“My name is Lisa and I am a plant hoarder.” LOL… the restaurant looks really cool.
I love the groundhog! Probably distant relatives to Rudy. We are babysitting 2 prairie dogs right now.

So you now have a prairie dog city at your place? Do they get along with each other? I am surprised by the amount of wildlife they get in their yard, which is right in a residential area.

Yes I do! 3 of them in total. Oh the two are in separate pens. They are two females and only around 6 months old…they are so much fun.
Yes that is odd in that kind of area…but they are not afraid of hardly anything.

I am always giving plants away, but I still have a lot. I take cuttings and root them–that is a problem.
I like breakfast for lunch. I should make some blueberry pancakes. (K)

I give mine away also but not enough. I hear you on cuttings and rooting. I stick lobes from the jade plants on dirt and they become new plants. Blueberry pancakes yum! You should.
