Beatlemania
These four
post-war boys from Liverpool
alchemized black America’s
blues, rock, and more
into mop-topped, matched suits
white bread musical manna
fuel that ignited mania.
Patriarchy trembled
to vibrations of deafening screams.
Ninety North American concerts
later, done. They couldn’t hear
themselves above the static.

Of course, there’s no way I can ignore a Beatles-related post, Lisa – nice job of poem-izing Beatlemania! :-)

Christian, I think I’d just watched another episode of the Disney + series when I wrote this, where they were talking about how the deafening screams covered up any deficiencies in their playing/singing during the concerts. Can’t imagine trying to perform under those conditions.

As much as I love The Beatles, Beatlemania had crazy and even outright dangerous sides to it!
To me, it borders on a near miracle The Beatles endured it as long as they did. And I’m not only talking about the fact they couldn’t hear themselves during live performances most of the time. It’s also crazy fans constantly chasing them, hysterical people passing out during their shows, etc.

I like how Virginia was enjoying writing her novels in the same way as an artist would draw pictures, Lisa. She must have been so talented.
Have a wonderful weekend! ☺️

Agree with you on Virginia’s talent. Her words are proof of it. You have a good one also, Yasan.

Love the Woolf, and yes, they did alchemize! I think you’ve described the whole Beatle experience briliantly.
