The Lost Ringmaster
Shirtless, riding across a golf course
on a red elephant, crowds turn to stare
at the man with a chest that has no hair.
He’s gone missing from the circus as his
mount’s tetched with mad louse disease;
still looking punched and fit, i.e. pleased.
Within or without the ring, his fixed smirk
represents the mien of guilty circle jerks
prostrate-prohibited from happy endings.
If you would like to know more about this fabulous song, I wrote a post on it awhile back.
Punam is today’s host for dVerse’ Tuesday Poetics. Punam says:
For today’s poetics prompt, I would like you to write an irreverent verse.
THANK YOU FOR THIS PROMPT, PUNAM

Thank YOU for writing this, Li! I love it! ❤️

When I read the words ’the man with a chest that has no hair’, Lisa, I immediately thought of Putin bare-chested on his horse. But the ‘fixed smirk’ that ‘represents the mien of guilty circle jerks’, I thought of the orange one. Either way, what a vile man so well captured in your poem.

Kim you guessed right on the p-word. He’s riding the red elephant who is orange ;)

A disturbing image, Lisa, but an accurate one!

Kim the whole mess we are in is disturbing. So much is riding on the election next week. Can’t believe it’s just a week away now.

Was inspiring, so real, authentic. This is true art with words, “getting hands dirty:” roughly moulded & sculpted.

Very good, Lisa! “prostate-prohibited”….now there’s a phrase you don’t hear often in poetry! JIM

lol Thanks, Shaun. It’s the worst think I could think of to wish upon them and I hope their suffering lingers on them until the end.

You really went all the way there, and it gives the verse such an incredible edge Lisa! a brilliantly bold and fiercely irreverent poem.

OM, thanks much. I would like to add more to it at some point. A few stanzas isn’t nearly enough to cover the mess.

I would love to read few more stanzas. After all, a great art is created by dismantling good art a few times. Keep writing Lisa 😊

The ending was quite a surprise. Lots of fun use of language in this one.

Thanks, Maria. I was kind of surprised by it also. The muse has a wicked sense of humor.
