POPO 2026 Day 29

postcard by Marina Owens

Reticent clouds tease
hostage-holding us under trees
skinny tomatoes, wrinkled carrots,
thirsty toads, drooping ferns,
browning grass, restless dust,
flower heads seeding early.

Though portended by machines
and itchy, hopeful eyes,
it is the clouds
who will decide
when and if to gift
us their release.
