The Looking Glass

the looking glass

Clutching at scraps,

Slight involuntary movements,

A timbre to the voice,

The positioning of an eyebrow,

Morsels that may indicate

Whether truth or lies.

Approval or disapproval.

I’ve never lied to you,

And there are no bones

About my opinions,

Yet the eternal search

Continues.

Do you know how fatiguing

It is to have your

Every move scoured?

Your every state

Aside from inert

clutched

then put under the lens?

Why?

Am I that

interesting?

extraordinary?

suspicion-inducing?

Or

Is it more about you?

Am I a mirror

You examine

To reveal

Your truths and untruths?

Approvals and disapprovals?

Break the mirror

And tune inward.

daily prompt — clutch
