Poetry Day 11 — Arthur

arthur

Today’s OctPoWriMo’s prompt is about falling through the cracks.  My definition of falling through the cracks means to be overlooked or forgotten.  Today’s suggested cascade form is inspired by when I went and helped my son and his wife volunteer at a cat shelter a few weeks back.  Even though the picture shows him in a cage, this no-kill shelter is an actual house, where the rooms are full of high walkways, nooks, cranny’s, beds, etc., along with a very loving and caring staff of volunteers.  The cats roam freely within the rooms.  Of all of the critters in the place, Arthur is who stuck in my mind.  When I got home, I went to the page and read about him.

Thick, orange coat on his frame,

He perches on the tallest shelf,

Watching the people come and go.

*

He’s been to this rodeo a time or two.

His competition includes a tabby kitten.

Thick, orange coat on his frame.

*

He tries to get their attention

when they first arrive, but he’s scared.

He perches on the tallest shelf.

*

They see his beautiful coat,

but the tabby kitten cuddles and curls.

Watching the people come and go.

Your cascade poem is lovely! I have a soft spot for cats. I have two of my own. Hopefully someone will give Arthur a good home.
