A double entendre is a word, phrase, etc. that has two meanings, one of them usually of a sexual nature. There are two songs I want to talk about today that I think are double entendre songs. First I will link the video, then the lyrics, then my thoughts about it. If you want to make it fun, before reading what I wrote, try to imagine what the other meaning might be.
The first one is Peter Gabriel’s, “Kiss that Frog”

OK did anything present itself to you? The song was released in 1992. I wasn’t on the net until 1995 so it was sometime after that, but after buying the CD it was on and listening to for awhile, the other meaning came to me. I threw my theory out there in whatever usenet group I frequented and was scoffed at. I decided to write the Peter Gabriel fan club or whatever it was at the time and ask them if Peter intended the other meaning. They denied it in writing. If I ever come across (i.e. find hard copy in my hoarding realm) their written response I will post it.
My theory is that its first meaning follows a classic fairy tale about the princess and the frog from Grimm’s Fairy Tales (1905) and is probably a lot older story than that.
The second meaning is a man asking a woman to give him oral sex, or perhaps asking to do “69” with him. This could also be a man asking a trans-woman for the same.
OK, now that you know my theory on this song, what do you think?

The first meaning is that this is a “super yuppie”. My theory on the second meaning is that the song is about a hot cross dresser or, like the first song, a trans-woman. Knowing my theory, and re-listening and re-reading the lyrics, what do you think?

I remember the group and that singers voice from Sheep Go To Heaven I believe… but not this song. It’s good but I like the other one better.

My son and I went to see them in concert at Royal Oak Music Theater, which is near Detroit, probably 12 years ago. It was a small place and we were very close to the stage and it was the best concert ever. The whole audience knew all of the words to all of the songs and we sang them like a mantra. The energy was amazing.

I like Peter Gabriel but out of the two songs I like Short Skirt Long Jacket better. I may not be qualified to interpret what these songs are about.

Both songs are sexually suggestive, but I am not certain about the transsexual or the cross dresser meanings, although that does make sense.

Both have double entendre in my opinion, quite clearly.
To me the frog is obviously his penis.
The second, when she’s playing with her jewlry, toiling with her hair, touring the facilities, faster and faster… it’s about a woman masturbating.
I don’t get the crossdresser or trans vibe, I’d be interested to know how you see it.

The thing that leapt off the page (no pun intended) about the Frog song was the line “get wet, get wet’, which is another sexual entendre. Women who are ‘prepped’ to have sex are often wet in their private area and some men like a LOT of juiciness, so they’ll ask ‘are you wet?” …it’s sort of nasty actually. 😐
The song by Cake might refer to a prostitute too, OR some woman without panties wearing a mini skirt. The long jacket is a sort of cover up to the fact that she’s there and she’s bare. My take on it anyway.

Both good interpretations and both possible. I was thinking maybe 69 on the first one because of the “get wet, get wet”. Peter Gabriel denied it way back when but who knows he might admit it nowadays….
