#d’Verse — Quadrille to Change

De Jackson is the host of d’Verse poet’s pub this evening. De’s prompt follows:

The changing of the guards. Spare change. Positive change. Change your clothes. Change your attitude. Change your life. Changed. Changeability. Changing. You could even go a little creepy on us, and write about a changeling. Whatever you write, just be sure it’s 44 words, and includes some alteration of the word change.

Thinking about it, daoism is the study of change, in light of the way of things.  The I Ching/Yi Jing isn’t daoism, per se, but its focus is all about how everything is in perpetual change.  After the poem, I’ve put a diagram of what all 64 hexagrams of the I Ching look like going in a circle.  Also, a link to a very basic primer on what the I Ching is and how it was/is used.

Quadrille to Change

Morning —

pink and orange

flourish sky;

Evening —

purple red

as sunset dies;

Between –

change for

ten thousand things;

some sink to the sea

some lift with wings.

Twixt —

gradations of

light and dark.

Let Mother Moon be guide;

toast the spectrum

of Change’s Arc.

    I like your use of rhyme here. And that “change for ten thousand things.” Life feels like that, doesn’t it? So many variables, so much change.

      Yes, and when you think everything that exists is also in that cycle of endless possibilities it takes it to another level!
