A Room With a Beach

Fandango’s FOWC for today is determined. The Word of the Day Challenge is combine.

Determined to find a way to make the bitter cold and relentless gray less menacing, Mary Jo effectively combined her need with her engineering and interior decorating skills. She took the back room of her house and turned it into an oasis.

She first installed a bank of daylight bright LED lights to cover the ceiling.  As they are LED they don’t take much juice. Heating for the room is provided through large vents near the ceiling, to mimic the way the sun’s rays beat down heat.

Along one wall is an in-ground wave pool to either swim laps or lie on an inflatable and sip pina coladas. Speaking of pina coladas, in one corner is a tiki bar, with tiki umbrella over it when you want to get out of the sun. The bar includes two full racks of liquor and a refrigerator for the mixers.

In the middle of the room is a large, 12′ x 12′, sandbox.  Just outside of each side of the box is a water-filled area to rinse your feet off as you get out of the box. The sand is collected and put back into the box after it is dried. In the sandbox is not only a place to sunbathe, but there is an array of beach toys as well as other fun sandbox items to play with.

A quadrophonic sound system rounds out the room, where the music is piped in from the stereo setup in another part of the house. A beautiful feature of the system is a control that, like Echo, takes verbal commands for the playlist.

Mary Jo had dreamed of this room for a long time. Last winter’s brutality spurred her into action. She spent from April until November making her dream into a reality.

    1. I do too! What I think could be a goldmine is if someone were to take a big warehouse and turn it into something like this for people living in northern climates. You could sell memberships to it like to the gym, tanning salon, etc.
