I was listening to, “The Basement Tapes” with Bob Dylan and The Band but youtube has blocked most of the videos from it. I was able to find, “When I Paint my Masterpiece” by The Band on their “Cahoots” album. From wiki: Cahoots is the fourth studio album by Canadian/American rock group the Band. It was released in 1971 … and was their last album of original material for four years.

Hey Li – why have YouTube blocked them?

it says on some copyright infringement for this country, some are just deleted. not sure who is blocking/deleting them, but they aren’t available

Good color job, the band remind me in looks of the dead south, minus one of course, lol

and the irony there is that they were all from the north — except 1 :)

Elliot Landry was the photographer. He took a bunch of them like that when they were at Big Pink. I think he photographed a lot of artists and celebrities in those years…

Thats right…Robbie told Albert Grossman to look for the worse photographer in New York at the time…really…he wanted something different…since everyone always wanted “the best.” Elliot really wasn’t the worse but he made some smeared shots for some magazine so they got him…I forgot his name.

You have got to be kidding me! Those photos rock! I had a book of his photos, but I ended up donating it as an auction item for a fundraiser for juvenile court kids. He was a fantastic photographer!

Does he say WHY he asked for the worst photographer? Are you sure he wasn’t trying to be funny? You wait till I see Robbie. I’m going to give him a piece of my mind ;)

No…he wasn’t joking…. He liked trying different things. Instead of asking for the best…he asked for the worst. Albert loved the idea… A sound engineer also told him that the basement would sound terrible and it would be impossible to get a good sound….that made him want to do it.

You’ve got me thinking now. What is the “best” in one person’s eyes might be what the crowd loves, but as far as aesthetic quality, the crowd may hate it. Robbie is one sharp dude. I need to read that biography. have his “Robbie Robertson: Going Home” documentary which is really good and remember how sharp he is in that also.

He is a smart guy. Alot of life adventures in him. Levon and him were so close at one time…they did a lot of things together.
