Jim Adams is our host for Song Lyric Sunday today. Jim says:
We gather here today for another episode of SLS Helen Vahdati’s This Thing Called Life One Word at a Time Song Lyric Sunday. The prompt this week is “Ocean/Sea/Lake/Bay”, which should make for some interesting posts.
Should you care to have some fun and pick a song for this prompt,
Here are the “rules”:
- Post the lyrics to the song of your choice, whether it fits the theme or not.
- Please try to include the songwriter(s) – it’s a good idea to give credit where credit is due.
- Make sure you also credit the singer/band and if you desire you can provide a link to where you found the lyrics.
- Link to the YouTube video, or pull it into your post so others can listen to the song.
- Ping back to this post will eventually work, as long as you are being patient.
- Read at least one other person’s blog, so we can all share new and fantastic music and create amazing new blogging friends in the process.
- Feel free to suggest future prompts.
- Have fun and enjoy the music.
I was 13 when this song came out. I like the way it changes things up. Lots happening in this song, special effects and vocals. It really surprised me to see this is a Paul McCartney song, not a Beatles song. I remember when Wings had their time in the sun. They had a lot of good hits!
Wikipedia says: “Uncle Albert/Admiral Halsey” is a song by Paul and Linda McCartney from the album Ram. Released in the United States as a single on 2 August 1971, it reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 on 4 September 1971, making it the first of a string of post-Beatles, McCartney-penned singles to top the US pop chart during the 1970s and 1980s. Billboard ranked the song as number 22 on its Top Pop Singles of 1971 year-end chart. It became McCartney’s first gold record as a solo artist.

I thought when I first heard this song- and also Band On The Run- that each song- was two songs- in both songs its kind of like The Beatles A Day In The Life- it sounds like two different songs sliced together. Especially Band On The Run- I thought it was strange that they always played those two songs back to back.. after a while I figured out it was one song…

Not sure what one particular sound in there is but I love it! It comes between “we’re so sorry” [sound] “uncle albert”.

I always loved the sound effects in this song and there is something in it that reminds me of Yellow Submarine.

Absolutely, I love it because it makes me think and search for music. I thoroughly enjoy it and I love reading the lyrics. Something I never really did before 🙂

Yes good old memories, even though not a huge Paul McCartney fan it’s an interesting song.💜

George is my favorite former Beatle, but Paul in Wings was very very good :)
