Reena’s Exploration Challenge #74 — Prayer to Maa Durga

Reena is the host of this Exploration Challenge. Reena says:

The prompt this week is a collage. Pick any one element of it (a picture or quote), or more and let the thoughts flow. The choice is yours.

I choose to write about statue in the collage, who I thought was Maa Durga but found out was Lord Shiva.  Below is a photo of Maa Durga:

Goddess-Durga-Goddess-of-Protection

Maa Durga,

you listen intently

to my prayers

and sit as still

as your very statue.

You care to hear.

You raise your hand

and say:

Worry

no more

I got this.

You know

I am ready

willing

able

to take care

of all of

your worries

your pleas.

These things

have already

been handled

you just don’t

know it yet

rest easy in

this knowledge.

    Lovely poem!

A correction – the statue shown is of Lord Shiva. Maa Durga is a female deity who appears atop a tiger. She is known for being strong, avenging humiliation. Lord Shiva is one of the Trinity – Brahma, the Creator, Vishnu- the Preserver and Shiva or Mahesh – the Destroyer. Together, they represent the evolutionary cycle.

The sentiments expressed would remain the same for any deity/God one worships.

    Thanks for joining in!

Reena thank you very much for the correction. I thought that was a female figure and a tiger. I should have looked closer! I might add a photo of her under your prompt photo just to clarify.

Reena, will you please check the photo I added to make sure it is of Maa Durga?

Yes, I already had that image, from a post I wrote for OctWriPoMo with her in it, and I did some research at that time. Also, I took a dream analysis class at the library in the fall, and the teacher did a lot of education on myths/archetypes/world origins and that’s where I first learned of Maa Durga :)
