Reena’s Exploration Challenge #75 — sapio-sexual — Unchained Melody to a Poet

sapio sexual

Reena’sExploration Challenge today is to write to the word/picture above. If you would like to participate, Reena says:

FOR THE NEW ENTRANTS

There is no restriction on the format or the length of the piece. It just has to be your reflection on the prompt from the core.

Write a post on your blog, and link it up with here with a pingback, or copy-pasting the blog link in Comments.

I had to look sapio-sexual up.  It is defined as either a noun or adjective, where the noun is, “a person who finds intelligence sexually attractive or arousing.”

Aha, so now I know what sapio-sexual is! My first thought was to take a traditional torch song and modify it to the term. The song is “Unchained Melody”, sung by The Righteous Brothers, Bill Medley and Bobby Hatfield (actually only Bobby Hatfield sings, with his backup singers) written by Alex North / Hy Zaret.

Now here is the youtube video of Hatfield singing with everything he’s got, but also they put clips in of the movie, “Ghost,” which is a poignant romance. Double dose of love here, where I cry my eyes out on both of them every time!

The original lyrics:

Oh, my love, my darling
I’ve hungered for your touch
A long, lonely time
Time goes by so slowly
And time can do so much
Are you still mine?
I need your love
I need your love
God speed your love to me

Lonely rivers flow
To the sea, to the sea
To the open arms of the sea
Lonely rivers sigh
“Wait for me, wait for me”
I’ll be coming home, wait for me

Oh, my love, my darling
I’ve hungered, for your touch
A long, lonely time
Time goes by so slowly
And time can do so much
Are you still mine?
I need your love
I need your love
God speed your love to me

Now amended to sapiosexuality:

Oh, my love, my poet,
Mind hungers for your verse
For long, lonely hours
Time goes by so slowly
When words can mean so much
Your mind’s divine!
I need your mind
It drugs like wine
Please speed your words to me

Sexy voltas sing
Denouement, denouement
To my hungry eyes, denouement

Luring lyrics sigh

“I want thee, I want thee”
Your mind, body, soul, I want thee!

Oh, my love, my poet,
Mind hungers for your verse
For long, lonely hours
Time goes by so slowly
When words can mean so much
Your mind’s divine!
I need your mind
It drugs like wine
Please speed your words to me

What are your thoughts about it?

  2. I had never heard the word… but yes, intelligence is super sexy, I think among poets you are preaching for the already converted… what a great idea to use a love song and “convert”

I’ve heard the term. Intelligence is a turn-on to me too, but not in isolation. I know loads of smart men and am not attracted to most of them. I also need humor and kindness and that undefinable chemistry.

Exactly, Paula, it’s a package deal. Add relatively free of debilitating mental illness and drug addiction and I’m sold 😉

i am a sapiophile, intelligence is a huge turn on, you did this well Jade, using a timeless song and reworking it was a neat idea. one of my favourite songs, your choice of words fitted the exploration really nicely. though prose not poetry confused me a little?!

I enjoyed this Jade. Had never heard the term sapio-sexual – and honestly, don’t care. All this exhibitionistic alphabet soup that sex now swims in is exhausting and annoying. I don’t give a damn what some body wants to do in the bedroom. They can fuck a garden hose for all I care, just keep it to themself. But anyway, back to your piece here – I liked it Jade… 🙂
