Per wikipedia: The King of Limbs is the eighth studio album by the English rock band Radiohead, self-released on 18 February 2011 as a download. On the Radiohead website, where it was exclusively available for nearly two months prior to its retail release, The King of Limbs sold between 300,000 and 400,000 download copies. Radiohead’s co-manager Chris Hufford estimated that Radiohead made more money from The King of Limbs than any of their previous albums, as most sales were made through their website without a record company… Following the protracted recording and more conventional instrumentation of In Rainbows (2007), Radiohead and their longtime producer Nigel Godrich developed The King of Limbs by sampling and looping. Singer Thom Yorke described the album as “an expression of wildness and mutation”. Radiohead released no singles from The King of Limbs, but released a music video for “Lotus Flower” featuring Yorke’s dancing that spawned an internet meme.

I haven’t seen the meme, but I love his dancing. I’ve watched this video multiple times. His spirit shines free. Dancing has nothing to do with how good you look. It is how free you feel when you do it.

Lotus Flower

I will shape myself into your pocket
Invisible
Do what you want
Do what you want

I will shrink and I will disappear
I will slip into the groove and cut me off
And cut me off

There’s an empty space inside my heart
Where the weeds take root
And now I’ll set you free
I’ll set you free

There’s an empty space inside my heart
Where the weeds take root
So now I’ll set you free
I’ll set you free

Slowly we unfurl
As lotus flowers
‘Cause all I want is the moon upon a stick
Just to see what if
Just to see what is
I can’t kick your habit
Just to fill your fast ballooning head
Listen to your heart

We will shrink and we’ll be quiet as mice
And while the cat is away
Do what we want
Do what we want

There’s an empty space inside my heart
Where the weeds take root
So now I’ll set you free
I’ll set you free

‘Cause all I want is the moon upon a stick
Just to see what if
Just to see what is
The bird lights float into my room

Slowly we unfurl
As lotus flowers
‘Cause all I want is the moon upon a stick
I dance around the pit
The darkness is beneath
I can’t kick your habit
Just to feed your fast ballooning head
Listen to your heart

  1. Thank you, Hans. I think I have all of their discs to date, even King of Limbs (via download). I think what they did at the site was allow you to pay whatever you thought it was worth, but I can’t remember what I gave, probably $10.

  3. You do choose good coloring music. I had forgotten about this song and video. I think you’ll be seeing the video soon on another :::cough::: blog because it fits in perfectly with something about job interviewing. Honest. 🙂
