Jeb sprawled on the bricks, letting the sun and bricks warm him. Jeb had always taken heat for granted in his youth, as his thick luxurious coat was impervious to all nature could throw at him; not now.

Even on days when the sun was not shining, Jeb waited in this place, for his Marina. For as long as Jeb could remember, Marina got up at 6 a.m., checked Jeb’s water and food dishes, held his purring body for morning snuggles, then left for the day. Marina always came home at 6 p.m.

Not today.

  1. What a lovely little story. I can just picture the cat sprawled on those sun-warmed bricks.

Uh Oh! The good news is cats are resilient. I have no doubt Jeb will find some sucker happy to feed him and fawn over him.

  9. Dear Jade,

Aw, this made my heart ache. Animals only understand that we’re there I think. I had a cat that used to give me the silent treatment for a few hours after I’d been gone a while. Don’t tell me they don’t feel. Good story.

    Shalom,

    Rochelle

Thank you, Rochelle. Laughing about your cat’s silent treatment. Cats like to play tough but they are quite sensitive.

Poor cat. This is so well-written, I could picture it clearly. Not a cat person, but I certainly felt for this lonely guy.

Oh, I hope Marina hasn’t died. And poor Jeb, I hope he finds someone else if she never comes back. That’s not so easy for an old cat.

  15. A lovely story yet sad story. Poor Jeb. I can picture him waiting and I imagine she won’t be coming home for snuggles.
