Saturday Mix – Mad About Metaphor, 27 April 2019 — Batten Down the Hatches

Sarah is the host of Saturday Mix.  Sarah says:

Welcome to the Saturday Mix – Mad About Metaphor, 27 April 2019!
This week we are dipping our toes into the pool of METAPHOR. Our challenge is all about the use of metaphor in our writing. You will need to use the metaphor provided in your response – which can be poetry or prose.
Our metaphor this week is:
Batten down the hatches.
Good luck with your ‘Mad About Metaphor’ task – I can’t wait to see what you come up with! Don’t forget to tag ‘Mindlovemisery’s Menagerie’, ‘Saturday Mix’, and hashtag #MAM.

OK!  I decided to write this in the form of a lai poem and also submit it to dVerse The lai is the featured form for the month of May at dVerse. I was a government worker for 25 years.  In that time I saw a sad cycle play itself out over and over again.

Batten Down the Hatches

Employee scratches
with ongoing batches
of boss.
Management branches
Rotten fruit caches
of cross.
Batten down hatches
Upcoming flashes
of dross.
*

New rules en masses
Soon turn to ashes
not gloss.
Sycophant latches
behavior matches
spoiled sauce.
Bets taken – watches
How long ‘ere clashes —
then gone.

(Repeat, ad nauseum, infinitum)

dross definition: something regarded as worthless; rubbish

I rode that bad bronco to the end. I want to go back to work but the thought of the bs that goes with the work has me putting it off again and again.

I worked part time most of the time, but also some low paying full time jobs. If I can help it the only person I’ll ever work for will be myself.

Then the only BS I’ll have to deal with is from my hubby… when he retires… ;)

If it’s a free service why do we have to pay for it??

I chose to pay for it to remove all the ads but most take the free option and have WP ads plastered all over their sites …

ugh. I never saw the ads and am glad I haven’t.

I had no idea until I accessed my blog from a friends computer to show her a post … the amount of ads was nauseous, flashing and blinking all over the place … I went home and immediately paid to remove them! We don’t see them in our reader or we just see an sign that says ads here but it was far more than that! WP search engines no longer visit …

Those kind of jobs can be demoralizing and empty – just keep on doing it over and over again.
