Not so Funny Now
The comedy duo of Benny and Wildee had been together for 20 years, their names household brands. Benny was the banana man and Wildee the stooge. Only their wives knew their routine was based on how wounded Wildee got with a joke during rehearsals.
Fame and fortune is nothing to tamper with. As Benny’s boiling words flattened Wildee, Wildee’s pressure built. Wanting to scream, Wildee instead placated Benny with praise.
Twenty years went by.
The day Benny tested Wildee with his “Mother Theresa is a devil” joke, is the day Wildee scooped Benny’s tongue out with a spoon.

Like many good comedians, there lies darkness behind those laughs.

With a spoon, heaven forbid. Comedy is a dangerous game for sure

“scooped Benny’s tongue out with a spoon” well I didn’t see that coming! Maybe a punch up but not that. I will have to use that on someone.

Dear Lisa,
I like what you did here with the prompt. The pressure built. ;) I wonder how many comedy teams are like this. Well done.

That will have been the last joke Benny made.
Scooping out body parts with a spoon seems to be quite popular, reminds me of this conversation in Robin Hood, Prince of Thieves:
“Why a spoon, cousin?” “Because it hurts more, you twit.”

Twenty years is a long time to be together, maybe too long for these too. I know a lot of acts that have been together for a long time get at each other.

Excellent, Jade!
I always wonder just how comedic teams last so long when they are based on one disrespecting the other.
Loved it.

Comedy turning into a tragedy. Benny and Wildee should have known their roles, and the fact that they were playing for the audience. Why get so aggravated?

He tested every joke out on Benny first to see how much it hurt him before putting it into the routine. Even though it led to their fame and success, it was eroding the relationship between Benny and Wildee.

Well, that had to hurt! Somehow I think they were probably both quite surprised!

I really like the way you depict the build up of tension between the duo. I believe the edginess of good comedy comes from discord between the double act. Nicely done.

I think Wildee’s a little too much of a Mother Teresa fanboy. She’s not even really his mother. Is she?
