Saturday Doodads — Garden Tour

Today a friend and I toured 8 different gardens in 80+ degree heat.  The temp in the car said 88 on the drive home.  Thankfully some of most of the gardens were in shade which helped.  Before going on to the pictures, I have to say a universal plant in each of the yards was helleborus, which is the plant every part is poisonous.  OK on with the photos…

above:  Giant hosta, Empress Wu, or something close.  A lot of the hosta were looking a bit peeked today.

This is an upright bush that looks like it should be a ground cover.  Very striking contrast to its surrounding buddies.

very healthy heuchera with pretty orange daylilies

the first garden had not one but two giant Japanese maple trees.  heaven on earth!

here is a shot of one of the Japanese maples from the other side of the yard.

isn’t this just about the prettiest thing you ever did see?

who knew bricks could look so pretty?

20190706_140544

Not sure what this piece of art is for other than beauty but it is cut bamboo, stacked horizontal.  almost looks like it could be a start to a beehive for artistic bees?

these lovelies have velvety soft leaves and look like violets but they aren’t.  forgot the name

What a sweet arrangement.  I want that fish!

20190706_141831

Looks like a fossil and I think it is one among very nice rocks.  This yard had a bunch of rocks.  I wonder if they’d miss this one?

One lady had a notebook of every plant in her yard.  I couldn’t believe there was a climbing black-eyed Susan when I saw hers so she showed me in her book.  She also has a climbing HYDRANGEA.  The thing is a monster and takes up a whole corner of her yard.  I want one!

Look at this oak tree gall.

Have you ever seen a tri-colored beech tree?  I hadn’t — until today.

Look at this cute new ginkgo the lady planted.  Just a few feet tall.

This is a very interesting evergreen.  Curved needles and white on the tops of each branch.  The cones were strange looking also but it wasn’t close enough to get a good shot of it.  Forgot the name but I know which nursery she got it from!

This is a type of maple I never saw before.  She told me the name but I forgot it.  It’s beautiful!

Glad you liked them, Christine. I also heard about a way to use FREE pallets to make planters, both laying flat and filling with dirt or keeping vertical and attaching hangers to the sides.

      1. Yes that’s right. A neighbor used pallets for various plantings. They looked pretty 🙂

It looked really pretty. With that setup you could add a whole arrangement of pots around it as well. One cool thing I didn’t take a pic of was her stockade fence. She attached bits and pieces of other wooden fence that people threw away, then attached cool metal decorated butterflies, etc. to each piece. Such an ingenious idea!

Oh yes, I forgot which post this was. These individuals have a passion for gardening. A wall like that takes several years to establish itself like this one. Time (and $$) is the garden’s friend. I’ve been at this place 8 years and am just getting started with filling it
in, but now that I have the time there isn’t much money :(
