The House of Chronos

Mlady Crumpet Chronos has been the reigning kingpin of her flower region for fifty years. Roses, peony, iris, gladiolus, geranium, tulips, and daffodils are her realm. When aficionados want the best, they come to the House of Chronos.

Starting her career in the fields as a laborer, she learned the business literally from the ground up. As she learned how to cross cultivars, her inherent artistic talents surfaced. It was more than that though. She had what some might call an uncanny knack of choosing just the right color combinations that drove her clients, and the flower market, wild.

What nobody knows, even her closest confidantes, is that nightly, Mlady visits the Goddess Flora in her dreams, who advises her which cultivars to cross.

Mlady had first met Flora in one of her dreams, after she’d gotten sunstroke in the field at the age of 8. As her mother placed cool compresses on her forehead, little Crumpet drifted in and out of sleep. Flora took Crumpet to a cool pool of water in a cave in the dream and the two had laughed and splashed there. At the same time in waking life, Crumpet’s spiked temperature cooled.

Now, 70 years later, Mlady still looks like a young woman. Everyone whispers but nobody has a clue that each night, in her dreams, she splashes, laughs, and plays in the cave pool with Flora and the hours of aging are washed away.

The End.

Fandango’s FOWC is kingpin and the Word of the Day Challenge is nightly.

Nekneeraj, I love the photo today!  It is beautiful and mystical.

I used my cat’s name for the protagonist’s name.  She came from the shelter as Crumpet.  I added Mlady to the front as she is a little lady.  On Sunday, my daughter in-law said I could have named her Chronos because of the hourglass on her forehead, so Chronos has been added.

  2. The hour glass is cute. Tabby cats all have a mark resembling an M on their foreheads.

Your cat is a lovely lady. I would cheerfully kiss the top of her head.
