Borrow the Lyrics Challenge — Mitski

I’ve been tagged by the lovely Sadje at Keep it Alive for a fun new game, which is called “Borrow the Lyrics Challenge”, created by PJ — I’m Sorry for the Inconvenience.

Sadje’s challenge to me is that:The song should be sung by a female artist.

The song I’m choosing today is by Mitski, called, “Me and My Husband.” I’ve included the youtube of the song and the lyrics, just because I love Mitski and her music.

Me and My Husband

I steal a few breaths from the world for a minute
And then I’ll be nothing forever
And all of my memories
And all of the things I have seen will be gone
With my eyes, with my body, with me

But me and my husband
We are doing better
It’s always been just him and me
Together
So I bet all I have on that
Furrowed brow
And at least in this lifetime
We’re sticking together
Me and my husband
We’re sticking together

And I’m the idiot with the painted face
In the corner, taking up space
But when he walks in, I am loved, I am loved

Me and my husband
We are doing better
It’s always been just him and me
Together
So I bet all I have on that
Furrowed brow
And at least in this lifetime
We’re sticking together
Me and my husband
We’re sticking together
Me and my husband
We are doing better
Songwriters: Mitsuki Laycock

The line from the song I’m choosing is:

And I’m the idiot with the painted face
In the corner, taking up space
But when he walks in, I am loved, I am loved”

Animated by your presence,
You pull my strings
And I jump with joy.
Alone and empty no more,

Watch me dance.
A puppet clown, twirling,
Tangling my strings in you.

Warmed by our fire
In deep winter’s chill,
You polish me to
A bright sheen —  then
You throw me in,

Poof, I crackle
As my sparks fill the sky.

OK, that was fun.  I nominate:  Barbara at Teleporting Weena to take on this challenge, as I know she has great taste in music and is a good storyteller.

Rules:

  1. You need to choose a verse from a song and use it in an original poem or story.
  2. You must include the name of the song and the singer at the end or beginning.
  3. You need to challenge someone else and invent ONE rule they need to follow.
  4. You must credit the person who started this challenge and the person who challenged you (see above.)
  5. You must include the rules of this challenge.
  6. ONE rule that I’m asking Barbara to follow is:  choose a song about a place you love.
