Dwight Sings Buck is country music artist Dwight Yoakam’s 17th studio album, and a tribute album to Buck Owens. The album was released on October 23, 2007 (Yoakam’s fifty-first birthday) by New West Records. I found this at the L and wanted to see what Dwight could do with the old Buck Owens hits. He didn’t disappoint me. One song on this album Dwight strayed significantly from the melody of the song but it still sounded good.
I Don’t Care (Just as Long as You Love Me)” is a 1964 single by Buck Owens, and was his fourth number one on the country chart. “I Don’t Care (Just as Long as You Love Me)” spent six weeks at number one and a total of twenty-seven weeks on the chart.[1] The B-side of the song, “Don’t Let Her Know”, peaked at number thirty-three on the country chart. I Don’t Care ifs from Buck’s album by the same name. Different sources have different people as the writers but more sources say that Buck wrote the song.
I’m including the Dwight version, the lyrics, then the Buck Owens and the Buckaroos version.
Well I don’t care if the sun don’t shine I don’t care if the bells don’t chime
Just as long as you love me
And I don’t care if the tops don’t spin I don’t care if the gins won’t gin
Just as long as you love me
So darling let it rain let it snow let the cold north wind blow
Just as long as you love me
North or south east or west you know I will stand the test
Just as long as you love me
Well I don’t care if the birds don’t sing I don’t care if the bells don’t ring
Just as long as you love me
I don’t care if the world don’t turn I don’t care if the fire don’t burn
Just as long as you love me
So darling let it rain…
Oh darling just as long as you love me

A lovely tune Li.

Thanks, Jim, yes it is. Lots of good ones on this CD. Dwight can’t match Buck’s voice, but I appreciate his trying.

You can’t lose with those choices! I love Buck’s voice and I also like the hiccup that Dwight places in there. Great song today… Love the birds in the tree…I like the tree bark a lot.

Max, thank you and agree the song is a winner as sung by either. You’re going to love tomorrow’s song.

I love how Dwight pays tribute to one of his heroes.. and I remember when Buck’s career was kind of down and out in the late 80’s and he gave him a boost with The Streets Of Bakersfield. One of my favorite country songs ever.
