With the Beatles is the second studio album by the English rock band the Beatles. It was released on November 22, 1963 (the same day when the 35th President of the United States John F. Kennedy was assassinated in Dallas, TX), on Parlophone, exactly eight months after the band’s debut Please Please Me. The album features eight original compositions (seven by Lennon–McCartney and “Don’t Bother Me”, George Harrison’s first recorded solo composition and his first released on a Beatles album) and six covers (mostly of Motown, rock and roll, and R&B hits).
According to Dennis Alstrand, “All I’ve Got to Do” is the first time in rock and roll or rock music where the bass player plays chords as a vital part of the song.
Lennon said that it was written specifically for the American market; the idea of calling a girl on the telephone was unthinkable to a British youth in the early 1960s. For instance, Lennon said in an interview regarding “No Reply”: “I had the image of walking down the street and seeing her silhouetted in the window and not answering the ‘phone, although I have never called a girl on the ‘phone in my life! Because ‘phones weren’t part of the English child’s life.”
According to songfacts.com, The Beatles never performed it live on stage. Maybe because they were afraid they’d be mobbed if they did? I included a cover I learned about on wiki, by a group called Toxic Audio that sounds pretty good. Let me know what you think!
Whenever I want you around, yeah
All I gotta do
Is call you on the phone
And you’ll come running home
Yeah, that’s all I gotta do
And when I, I wanna kiss you, yeah
All I gotta do
Is whisper in your ear
The words you long to hear
And I’ll be kissing you
And the same goes for me
Whenever you want me at all
I’ll be here, yes, I will
Whenever you call
You just gotta call on me, yeah
You just gotta call on me
And when I, I wanna kiss you, yeah
All I gotta do
Is call you on the phone
And you’ll come running home
Yeah, that’s all I gotta do
And the same goes for me
Whenever you want me at all
I’ll be here, yes, I will
Whenever you call
You just gotta call on me, yeah
You just gotta call on me
Oh, you just gotta call on me

Were Huxley and Lewis two others who died that day? Huxley the author? And sorry, who Lewis?

Glad you enjoy the posts. Now what is a hamsa hand? I could look it up on google but I prefer you tell me 🙂

It’s a hand of protection, I think of middle eastern origin. Often there’s an eye on the palm. You can hang one in your house or wear one as an amulet. That’s the design you colored.

Ah, cool, thanks. It’s in the mandala coloring book so that makes sense.

I like that cover a lot. I never heard a female cover it…it sounds great! Strange because I was going to include a cover by that band I featured called Blue Ash of this very song!
Lennon’s voice in this song is just great. Great song again today Lisa.

It is interesting to find out that the British did not use phones like the Americans did.
